On Saturday, July 12, 2025, a tragic golf cart accident in Munford, Alabama, claimed the life of 17-year-old Rodney Gilliland, a rising senior at Munford High School, around 7:30 p.m.

Born on September 4, 2007, to Candice Johnson Gilliland and Michael Gilliland, Rodney Wayne Gilliland was an only child who grew up surrounded by love in Munford, Alabama.
A proud native, he was a dedicated student and athlete at Munford High School, where he left an indelible mark.
Rodney was a standout member of the varsity football team, wearing jersey #79 as a guard and defensive end.
He was good at running track and fishing. This showed that he was skilled and loved sports.

An avid golfer and bass fisherman, he found joy in the quiet moments spent on the green or by the water.

On July 13, his mother, Candice, shared a heart-wrenching message on Facebook:
“I know everyone has heard what happened to Rodney he had a golf cart accident and he pasted away today around 7:30. I just wanted to let everyone know his service will be at munford baptist and when i get more information i’ll let everyone know. I want to thank everyone who’s check in and come out tonight. He loved everyone and was loved by many. I don’t really have a lot to say right now losing my only child. Just keep all our family and friends in your prayers. Thanks again for everyone who’s checked in.”
