Xander Schauffele, an American professional golfer who competes on the PGA Tour, comes from a family with a rich and diverse cultural background.

The Olympic gold medalist, Xander Schauffele, was born Alexander Victor Schauffele on October 25, 1993, in San Diego, California, to German-French father Stefan and Taiwanese/Chinese mother Chen Ping-Yi.

His father, Stefan Schauffele, was born in Stuttgart to a French mother and a German father, whereas his mother, Chen Ping-Ye, was born in Taiwan to Chinese parents.

Furthermore, Xander’s mother, Ping-Yi, moved to Tokyo, Japan, with her family at age four after her father came to the country as an exchange student.

Ping-Yi stayed in Japan until her junior college before moving to the U.S. to continue her further studies.

Likewise, Xander Schauffele’s parents, Stefan and Ping-yi, first met at San Diego’s United States International University.

Their bond quickly flourished, leading to their marriage just three months after meeting. The couple tied the knot in 1988 and have been happily married for over thirty years.

Xander Schauffele proudly embraces the mixed roots of his parents, Stefan and Ping-Yi, and credits them for shaping his journey both on and off the golf course.

His mother instilled in him Asian values and lessons, including respect, honesty, politeness, and kindness, which helped Xander become one of the kindest and most loved golfers.

Xander is kind to everyone and very polite. I never planned to raise him that way, but I grew up in Japan, so I guess I just naturally raised my bots from a young age the same way I was raised,” said Ping-Yi.

Moreover, Xander often states that his Asian mother, Ping-Yi, was pretty strict compared to his French-German father, Stefan, which later helped him be disciplined in his sports journey.

Hard work, honesty, removing shoes before entering the house, and respecting elders are small traits that helped Xander Schauffele become a dedicated golfer.

Xander Schauffele said,

Discipline and focus were sort of staples and pillars, and even though it was sort of cross-cultural, those were very common denominators that sat in our family,”

While very little information about Xander Schauffele’s mother, Ping-Yi, is available as she prefers to maintain a low profile, she often proudly expresses her love for her son in interviews.

A Setback Turned Strength: Stefan’s Injury Became The Foundation For Xander’s Career”

While Xander Schauffele inherited many traits from his Chinese mother, Ping-Yi, he got his athletic genes from his father, Stefan Schauffele, a former decathlete and avid golfer.

Moreover, Stefan Schauffele was an exceptional decathlete who dreamed of showcasing his talents in the Olympics.

Unfortunately, his Olympic dreams were shattered by a tragic car accident weeks before his 21st birthday.

In November 1985, while driving his car in Germany, he was hit by a drunk driver, causing multiple injuries and the loss of sight in his left eye, ending his career.

However, despite the life-threatening incident, Stefan Schauffele never lost hope and, after recovering from his injuries, he became interested in golf and later worked at a golf academy in San Diego.

Stefan Schauffele was the one who instilled in Xander the love and passion for golf from a very young age and served as his first coach.

My dad’s been with me every step of the way. He plays a very unique role with several hats, being my coach and everything else, said Xander Schauffele.

Moreover, Xander Schauffele also dedicated his Olympic victory to his coach and father, Stefan Schauffele, stating, “This medal is for my country and my family, especially my dad.

Stefan Schauffele is now not only a proud father and coach to Xander Schauffele but also the general manager of Hanaoka LLC in Hawaii, Status Management LLC in Las Vegas, Nevada, and XVS Entertainment.

Prior to that, Stefan Schauffele served as the president and CEO of Andmore Products, a ladies’ fashion accessories manufacturing company, for over 13 years.

He also served as the Corporate Director and partner of Global Artists Ltd. in Tokyo, Japan, for three years and as the vice president of Operations of Manufair Inc., a golf product development and representation company.

Similarly, Stefan was the director of marketing of Forten Corporation and an assistant gold professional of Princeville Corporation in Hawaii.

Stefan not only thrived in his career but also excelled academically, earning several degrees from a renowned University.

He earned his DBA in international Marketing from Alliant International University-San Diego Campus in 1998, an Associate degree in Golf Operations Management from San Diego Golf Academy in 1994, and his MBA from United States International University in 1990.
