Graciela Moreno-Chavana stands as the devoted wife of the late David Chavana, a respected Edinburg, Texas, community leader, educator, and founder of the All-America City 10K Run.

Following David’s passing in late December 2025, tributes from public officials and residents across Edinburg have highlighted Graciela as a central figure in honoring his enduring legacy and supporting the family he cherished.

Graciela has shared a life with David since at least the early 1980s. Together, they built a family rooted in service and community values.

They raised two sons, Vito Chavana and Noah Chavana, and later welcomed a grandson, Trey, who was noted by family sources in 2013.

Friends, colleagues, and city leaders have publicly extended condolences to Graciela and her family, emphasizing the strength and grace she continues to show during a period of profound loss.

Beyond her role as David Chavana’s wife, Graciela has earned widespread respect through her distinguished career in healthcare.

She works as a highly accomplished nurse and healthcare administrator with a specialization in maternal and neonatal care.

She holds a Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) and advanced certifications, including RNC-OB and C-EFM, which reflect her expertise in inpatient obstetric nursing and electronic fetal monitoring.

As the Director of Women’s Services and Nurseries at The Maternity Center at South Texas Health System (STHS) McAllen, Graciela has led initiatives that prioritize quality, safety, and compassion in maternal care since at least the mid-2010s.

Under her leadership, the center achieved record-breaking delivery numbers in October 2024, marking its highest monthly total in eight years.

She has consistently emphasized trust, confidence, and deep community ties, values that have guided the center since its establishment in 1985.

Graciela has also played a key role in advancing evidence-based maternity practices throughout the region.

In April 2025, she helped lead the redesignation of STHS McAllen and Edinburg as Texas Ten Step facilities, reinforcing a strong commitment to breastfeeding support and improved health outcomes for mothers and babies.

Earlier, in 2017, facilities under her oversight received national recognition for excellence in quality care, including strong performance in both vaginal deliveries and C-sections.

Her voice has remained influential in discussions around maternal and neonatal health.

Graciela has spoken publicly about the importance of choosing a maternity center built on trust and long-standing community commitment.

She has also highlighted the critical role of neonatal intensive care units, explaining how education, follow-up care, and family connection form the foundation for healthier outcomes.

Through her leadership, teams have adopted practices that reduce complications, such as safely weaning infants off oxygen more quickly when appropriate.

In addition to her hospital leadership, Graciela has contributed to regional healthcare collaboration.

She has appeared on boards and subcommittees of organizations such as the Trauma Regional Advisory Council (TRAC-V), where she represented McAllen Medical Center and supported broader efforts to strengthen emergency and maternal care across South Texas.

Publicly, Graciela maintains a low profile, with no active social media presence tied directly to her name.

Most public references to her come through her professional achievements and her enduring partnership with David Chavana.

Images from her career often show her celebrating milestones with staff and families at STHS, reflecting a hands-on leader who values recognition, morale, and community connection.

Today, David Chavana’s wife continues to embody the values that defined their shared life: service, leadership, and compassion.
