Grant Stuard, a talented linebacker for the Indianapolis Colts, is celebrated for his relentless drive on the football field.

But beyond the tackles and touchdowns, a deeply personal family story has shaped his journey to the NFL and defined his character.

With a challenging childhood and a family bond tested by hardship, Stuard’s life is a testament to resilience, strength, and the power of family support.

A Challenging Upbringing Rooted in Family Responsibilities

Grant Stuard was born in Conroe, TX, on October 15, 1998. Growing up, he faced a rough environment that tested him from a young age.

Both of Grant Strud’s parents were struggling and were often unable to provide a stable home, leaving Grant to take on the role of caretaker for his four younger siblings.

This responsibility taught him stability and the importance of family despite his many challenges.

Grant’s father, Truce Dawayne Stuard, struggled to provide consistent support.

Dawayne was frequently absent and faced legal troubles, with numerous arrests and periods of incarceration between 1995 and 2020.

During these challenges, Grant learned to guide his life mainly independently, relying on inner strength and his grandmother’s unconditional support.

Grant’s youth was marked by fluctuation; he slept on countless couches across Houston and often went without guaranteed meals.

Despite these hardships, he remained committed to his dreams of playing football, a journey requiring immense strength, faith, and perseverance.

My oldest turned 25 this past Sunday I could not be prouder of him and the man he has become. The moments went too fast…

Though sometimes absent, Grant’s father, Truce Dawayne Stuard, eventually became a source of guidance and inspiration.

Truce is a dedicated builder and contractor at Stuard Home & Design, a family-owned business.

Growing up in Spring, Texas, and attending Spring High School in 1995, Truce developed a strong work ethic that influenced Grant’s perspective on life and hard work.

In later years, Truce’s role as a mentor has proven invaluable to Grant, offering insight into the power of dedication and strength.

These values have become fundamental to Grant’s journey in the NFL.

Grant’s mother, Laurel Montgomery, also had a challenging past, beginning a battle with addiction in her teenage years.

From her first experience with drugs at 16 to the difficulties of sustaining a stable life, Laurel’s journey was fraught with obstacles.

She eventually turned her life around after multiple overdoses, a journey to recovery that began with her enrollment in Turning Point, a rehab facility in Tampa, Florida.

During this challenging time, Grant played a vital role in his family’s stability by assuming custody of his younger sister, Samaria, to protect her from the hardships of their environment.

With time, Laurel became a source of inspiration for her son as she overcame her struggles and began supporting others on their road to recovery as a Turning Point employee.

In August 2021, Grant Stuard married his longtime partner, Josie Stuard.

Grant Strud’s parents have become grandparents. In May 2024, Grant and Josie welcomed their son, Elihu Da’laine Stuard.

Becoming a husband and father has given Grant new meaning and reinforced his dedication to family, a quality he has carried from his early years.

This latest chapter represents his transition from a devoted son and brother to a loving husband and father, ready to pass on the values he holds dear.
