Greenwood in Mourning: Parents, Community Grieve Murder of 17-Year-Old Athlete Zaden Goodman

Zaden Goodman, a former Emerald High School Track & Field athlete, was shot around 11:30 p.m. Saturday near the 1100 block of Reynolds Avenue.

The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office is investigating the tragic incident.

The Greenwood County Coroner’s Office is investigating a homicide after a 17-year-old Zaden Goodman was shot and killed over the weekend.

Zaden was taken to Self Regional Healthcare, but passed away at around 3:30 a.m. Sunday.

Authorities have not released any information about a possible suspect at this time and state that the investigation is ongoing.

Zaden was the victim of an unthinkable and STUPID act of violence, the kind that we have unfortunately become accustomed to here in Greenwood. Unless we get the violence under control, Greenwood will forever be unfit to raise a family in. This is Sad, but true.

Zaden Goodman’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss

The Goodman family announces the tragic and untimely passing of their beloved son and brother, Zaden Goodman.

His life was violently cut short at the age of 17 on the night of Saturday, January 10, 2026.

Zaden, the son of Marty Goodman, was born on February 15, 2008, in Greenwood, South Carolina. He shared an inseparable bond with his twin brother, Zymere.

They formed a close-knit family alongside their brother, Moctavius Goodman, and their sisters, Amari Goodman and Kayla Alexis Goodman.

Their bond was filled with love, laughter, and camaraderie.

Zaden carried the discipline and spirit of an athlete into every aspect of his life. He possessed a sweet and genuine soul.

Similarly, he had a remarkable gift for making others smile, offering light and kindness regardless of the circumstances or situation. His gentle nature and positive spirit touched countless lives.

Never knew just how bad it feels to lose someone you spend 50% of your time with. The silence hurts different, the days feel longer, and my heart is still learning how to breathe without you here. Long live my best friend, Zaden 🕊️💙We Love You!!!

Unfortunately, the Goodman family is now facing a profound loss. They find solace in remembering his bright smile, his gentle demeanor, and the unconditional love he shared so freely.

They will soon announce a memorial service to celebrate the life of a young athlete.

Zaden’s time was brief, but his legacy is one of pure kindness. He will be deeply missed, forever loved, and never forgotten.
