The beloved voice of Nebraska athletics, Greg Sharpe, has passed away at the age of 61 after a battle with pancreatic cancer.
Greg Sharpe was a highly respected sports announcer, best known as the voice of Nebraska athletics.
He began his role as the play-by-play announcer for Nebraska football and baseball in 2008, a position he held for 17 seasons.
His booming voice and infectious personality made him a beloved figure among Husker fans and colleagues alike.

2024 Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year Greg was born and raised in Olathe, Kansas.
He grew up with a passion for sports, which eventually led him to pursue a career in sports broadcasting.
Regarding his education, he attended Kansas State University. During his time there, he further honed his skills and developed a deep understanding of the sports world.
Sharpe’s career in sports broadcasting began in 1986 as an intern at WIBW-TV under sports director Ron Paradis.
His internship quickly transformed into a full-time position, which marked the beginning of his career in sports broadcasting.
He established himself as a respected figure in collegiate sports broadcasting. From 1996 to 2002, he served as the voice of Kansas State football and basketball.
In 2008, Sharpe joined the University of Nebraska as the play-by-play announcer for Nebraska football and baseball.
Over the next 17 seasons, his distinctive voice became synonymous with Husker athletics.
Sharpe’s contributions to sports broadcasting were widely recognized. He was named the Nebraska Sportscaster of the Year twice.
Greg Sharpe Is Survived By His Wife, Amy, And Their Three Daughters!
Beyond his professional achievements, Sharpe was known for his loyalty and relationships with those around him.
Greg and his wife, Amy, shared a deep, loving relationship and married for many years.
Amy began her broadcasting career at WIBW TV as a reporter from April 1992 to December 1993. It was during this time that she met Greg.
Currently, she hosts “Healthy & Seniors Everyday” at KOLN/KGIN-TV 10/11 News in Lincoln, Nebraska, a position she has held since January 2020.
She also works as a Video Specialist for Advisors Excel, a role she began in January 2019.
The couple had three daughters: Emily, Campbell, and Taylor.
Throughout his career, Amy was a constant source of support for Greg, especially during his battle with pancreatic cancer.

While his passion and energy on the call of Husker football and baseball brought joy to so many for the past 17 seasons, it comforts us to know that his legacy will live on through these same moments that he narrated and through the relationships that he built…
Matt Rhule, Nebraska’s head football coach, expressed his condolences on social media, saying, “Rest in Peace, Greg. You sure spoiled us down here.”
Likewise, for decades, Matt Davison, Sharpe’s broadcast partner and friend, shared his sorrow, stating,
