Hal Presley, a wide receiver of the Kansas City Chiefs, credits his parents for his athletic success. His parents never stopped believing in him and encouraged his passion for it.

His mother, Thamatha Presley, worked two jobs, and they received financial assistance from a local Optimist club, which enabled Hal to purchase football pads in middle school.

The Kansas City Chiefs have given undrafted wide receiver Hal Presley the opportunity of a lifetime, signing him to their 90-man roster ahead of training camp.

After going unselected in the 2024 NFL Draft, Presley initially signed with the Buffalo Bills on May 9 but was released just weeks later following rookie minicamp.

Presley showcased his potential in college, averaging 12.9 yards per catch and totaling 429 receiving yards with three touchdowns in 2024.

He has a legitimate shot to impress head coach Andy Reid and earn a role with the Chiefs’ wide receiver room facing uncertainty.

Kansas City’s first training camp practice begins Tuesday morning, and Presley will need to make an immediate impact to secure his spot.

The Chiefs have a history of turning overlooked players into key contributors. If Presley seizes this opportunity, he could follow in the footsteps of other under-the-radar success stories.

Hal Presley’s Supportive Parents Are Behind His Success

Hal Presley, the son of Hal and Thamatha Presley, was born in 2002, in Mansfield, Texas. His parents raised him in a close-knit family alongside his two sisters, Tanji and Shanda.

Moreover, his parents raised him in a loving household where hard work and passion were instilled from an early age.

Thamatha Presley is a dedicated mother who worked two jobs to support her family while ensuring her children had opportunities to pursue their dreams.

Recognizing Hal’s love for football, the family received assistance from a local Optimist club, which helped provide Hal with his first football pads in middle school.

Hal was immersed in sports from the moment he could walk, and his parents fostered his athletic drive every step of the way.

Their constant support and sacrifices laid the foundation for his success, which proved that behind every great athlete is a family that believes in them.

Moreover, they are often seen cheering for the rising wide receiver in the sidelines.

I knew he had a love for football, and one of the things I always taught my kids is whatever you have a passion for in your heart, go for it. When it comes to my family, I’m going to push them and really be behind them. We’re his biggest fans.

Hal Presley’s Never-Give-Up Attitude Comes From His Mom

College football can be a grueling journey, especially for a freshman still finding his place. The transition for Hal Presley was nearly enough to make him walk away from the game altogether.

But whenever doubt crept in, his mother’s constant belief kept him going.

Presley’s path to Baylor wasn’t straightforward.

He had a standout high school career at Mansfield Summit, where he racked up over 1,000 receiving yards and 16 touchdowns as a senior.

He initially committed to Auburn but just weeks later, joined Baylor, facing new challenges on and off the field. Adjusting to college life and the demands of Division I football tested his resolve.

There were moments when he considered quitting until he remembered the one person who never stopped believing in him.

My mom is really important. All my life, she’s made it clear that I was going to make it, even when I didn’t believe it. I used to get picked on and talked down to, and she was the only one to believe in me. Every time I feel like I’m (going to) quit, I just tell myself that my mom didn’t quit on me. She’s my ‘why.’

Thamatha’s encouragement wasn’t just about football, but it was about perseverance in every aspect of life. Presley reminded himself that his mom never quit on him when frustration set in.

His willingness to show his emotions has made him a relatable and inspiring figure in Baylor’s locker room. His passion isn’t just for himself, but it’s a reflection of the resilience his mother instilled in him.

His journey wasn’t easy, from switching positions in high school to navigating the uncertainties of college football. However, his mom’s lessons guided him to keep pushing forward no matter what.
