A 17-year-old Hansberry College Prep recent graduate and beloved football team captain, DeAngelo Miles, was fatally shot in an alley in Chicago’s West Pullman neighborhood early Sunday, June 1, 2025.

The tragic news comes just three days after Miles celebrated his high school graduation, leaving his family, friends, and school community in disbelief.

DeAngelo Miles is survived by his mother, Kevina Fleming, her partner known as Gemini Man on Facebook, and his four siblings.

Thus far, it remains unknown whether his mother’s partner, Gemini Man, is his biological father.

Miles had ambitious plans for his future, including joining the U.S. Navy and working a summer job with the Chicago Park District. However, his dreams were cut short after a tragic incident.

According to Chicago police, the heartwrenching incident took place around 3:08 a.m. in the 11900 block of South Wallace Street.

Miles was found with a gunshot wound to the head and was pronounced dead despite efforts by responding officials to save him.

A witness said they heard gunshots before finding the teen in the alley. By Monday afternoon, no one had been arrested, and the reason for the shooting was still unknown. However, Miles’ family believes it might have been a failed robbery.

As captain of the Hansberry College Prep football team, he served as a role model for his peers and was an active participant in school activities.

Miles, a charismatic and warm-hearted young male, often created TikTok videos and conducted interviews with fellow students.
