Harold David Miner, born May 5, 1971, is a former professional basketball player and a two-time National Basketball Association (NBA) Slam Dunk Contest winner.

Miner’s rise to fame began at Inglewood High School. He was celebrated for his incredulous dunking capabilities and enthusiastic team performances.

His ability to make exquisite dunks earned him the “Baby Jordan” tag. In his senior year, Miner scored an average of 28 points per game, recording 48 points and 17 rebounds in a single game.

After leaving college in the 1991-92 season, the Miami Heat picked Miner as the 12th overall pick in the 1992 NBA Draft.

Following several failed stints in NBA teams, the Chicago Bulls, Cleveland Cavaliers, and Toronto Raptors, Miner parted ways with the NBA on February 20, 1996.

Harold Miner’s Wife And Daughter

Harold Miner met his wife at arguably the worst point of his life. It had only been a year of dating when the basketball prodigy suffered a knee injury, which led the Heat to trade him to the Cavaliers.

However, his wife, Pam, proved to be a godsend, as she flew to Cleveland to support him through the surgery.

Moreover, she slept in a hospital chair for countless nights while her boyfriend recovered from injury.

Meanwhile, her catfish dish was a bonus for the injured athlete. In an intense environment that always expected him to be exceptional and be the next “Jordan,” Pam brought calmness to his life.

According to Miner, she never cared if he could dunk or score a 3. Furthermore, he knew she felt love when she looked at him and did not see him as a failed prodigy

Thus, in 1999, he asked Pam to marry him, and the couple tied the knot soon that year. Soon after, Miner bought a home in Las Vegas and settled into the house with his newly wedded wife.

Leaving basketball was tough for Miner, and his move to Vegas was him trying to escape his past. However, despite trying to shut his basketball memories off, Pam would notice a grieving husband.

However, in 2003, a piece of good news would embrace Miner- the birth of his first child, a daughter, Kami. This allowed him to reshape his life and find a new purpose.

Kami Miner: The Protégé

Kami Miner aims to win all championships in volleyball, and she is more than appreciative of having a father who knows the highs and lows of the life of sports.

Indeed, to Miner, Kami came as a blessing. Finally, he could get his mind off of the disappointments of his career and put all his effort into helping his daughter win.

Talking to ESPN, Miner said, “It was therapeutic for me to be able to use all that stuff and just pour that stuff into my daughter.”

Additionally, Miner ensures that his daughter learns broader life lessons about managing expectations, caring for one’s body, and creating one’s path.

Consequently, this has carried on to Kami, and her strategies, mental toughness, and skills are a testament to that.

She understands that there is more to life than individual sports achievements. However, this doesn’t stop her from producing results.

The 21-year-old has earned a Pac-12 Freshman of the Year in 2021. Meanwhile, she became the first-team All-American and the Pac-12 Setter of the Year as a sophomore.
