Carter Edell, an eighth-grade student-athlete at Hastings Middle School, passed away unexpectedly in September 2025.

His passing left his family, friends, and entire community devastated.

Carter was an exemplary student-athlete at Hastings Middle School, balancing the demands of his schoolwork with his commitment to athletics.

He was renowned for his positive attitude and strong work ethic, both in the classroom and on the playing field. Moreover, he was recognized as a focused student, and his coaches appreciate his teamwork and determination.

He represented the best of what it means to be a middle school student-athlete by giving his best effort in his studies and his sports.

Unfortunately, the Hastings community lost a proud student who worked hard and represented their school so well.

Carter Edell’s Family Mourns the Tragic Loss

Carter Edell was a beloved son, brother, and friend whose life, though far too short, touched everyone around him.

His kindness, radiant smile, and joyful spirit brought light into every room.

Carter was deeply loved by his family, cherished by his friends, and an essential part of our community.

He was known for his friendly demeanor and active participation in school activities. He was a positive force who made a lasting impact on all who had the privilege of knowing him.

His loss has left an indelible mark on the school community and beyond.

The Edell family is facing an unimaginable loss. While nothing can take away their pain, the local community is trying to help ease the burdens that come with such a tragedy.

In support of the family during this difficult time, Katie Theado has organized a fundraiser to assist with funeral expenses, time away from work, and the many unexpected costs that follow the loss of a loved one.

Any contribution, no matter the size, will go directly to the family to help them focus on healing and remembering their precious son.

The Columbus, Ohio community is mourning the tragic loss of Carter Edell, a beloved student whose life was cut short far too early. Carter, a student of Upper Arlington High School and UA Hastings Middle School, was known for his kindness, enthusiasm, and infectious smile. His passing has left his family, friends, and entire community devastated.

A memorial service to honor and celebrate Carter’s life will be held at Hastings Middle School. The community is invited to come together in remembrance of a life that, though brief, was filled with joy and kindness.
