Following it in August 2021, he suffered from right elbow tightness. The same year, Sawamura was placed on the COVID-related list for a month.

Sawamura was married to Japanese free announcer Maki Mori. They tied the knot in 2011, but after two years, they decided to part ways. Before getting married, the duo had dated for a considerable amount of time.
