William James Simmons, a graduate of Hobbton High School, sadly passed away on Sunday.
Simmons was born on February 3, 2000, to his father, Adam Whitfield, and his mother, Jamie McLamb Simmons.
He was a multi-sport athlete at Hobbton High School in Newton Grove, North Carolina, graduating in the Class of 2018.
Simmons competed in baseball, basketball, and football, contributing across all three programs during his high school career.
In baseball, Simmons played for the Hobbton varsity team as #11. He was known primarily for his defensive reliability, finishing with a strong fielding percentage of .974, which ranked among the top in North Carolina’s 1A classification.
While his offensive numbers were more modest, batting .178 with 8 hits, 4 runs, and 2 RBIs, he provided a steady presence in the field and helped support his team through the 2018 season.
One of his notable performances came in a 14-2 victory over Lakewood on May 3, 2018, where Hobbton secured a dominant win.
Throughout the season, he participated in several competitive games against teams such as Rosewood, Princeton, North Duplin, Union, and Neuse Charter.
Beyond baseball, he also played varsity basketball as a forward (#23) and varsity football as an outside linebacker and tackle (#81).
