On an early Saturday morning, Jackson was struck by a sedan while crossing Perdido Key Drive near River Road in Escambia County, Florida.
The incident, which also claimed the life of a 20-year-old woman from Calera, Alabama, has left family, friends, and loved ones suffering with an unimaginable void.

Jackson Cunningham was born the middle child to Kelly Cunningham, growing up alongside his sisters, Emma and Bella, in Hoover, Alabama.
From a young age, Jackson’s vibrant personality shone through.
His elder sister, Emma, described him as “hardworking, funny, loving, determined,” a young man who was “the life of the party” and loved by so many.
His contagious laugh and warm smile could light up any room, leaving a lasting impression on everyone he met.
Jackson was a standout athlete at Bumpus Middle School in Hoover, excelling as a point guard in basketball and a football player.
His athleticism was matched by his discipline and drive, qualities that carried into his professional and academic life.

As a member of the Theta Chi Alabama Pledge Class of 2022, he found a second family in his fraternity.

Emma Cunningham’s tribute to her “baby brother” was equally heart-wrenching.

A Tragic Accident
According to the Florida Highway Patrol (FHP), the accident occurred early Saturday morning on State Road 292 at the intersection with River Road in Escambia County.
A sedan, driven by a 47-year-old man from Pensacola, was traveling east when it struck Jackson and another pedestrian crossing the road.
Both were pronounced dead at the scene.
The driver was unharmed, and the FHP continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the tragedy.
The loss of two young lives has sent shockwaves through their communities, with tributes pouring in for Jackson and the young woman from Calera.
Jackson’s death has touched many, from former teammates to classmates and community members who knew him through the years.
Angela Wickert Dunn, who remembered Jackson from the North Shelby Basketball League, shared,
“I remember Jackson well from the days of the North Shelby Basketball League. The OM Raptors played Hoover many times over those years. He was a sweet kid and his mother was always so friendly. This is gut wrenching.”
