A football player at Hoover High School, Kenny Spence, passed away on Saturday.

Kenny Spence was a 2022 graduate of Hoover High School in San Diego, California, where he played varsity football as a wide receiver (WR) and cornerback (CB), wearing jersey #1.

Standing 5’11” and weighing 160 pounds, Spence showcased his athleticism over two varsity seasons.

In his junior season (2020), despite Hoover’s 0-4 record, Kenny remained a key contributor with 25 receiving yards and 4 kick return yards in a single game against Crawford, totaling 66 all-purpose yards.

His performance earned him top-3 rankings in his league in average yards per carry (20.5) and total yards (41) in 2021.

As a senior in 2021, he posted 205 passing yards and 114 rushing yards, scoring two rushing touchdowns and three passing touchdowns, including a standout 196-yard passing game with three touchdowns in a win over ECVHS.

Kenny Spence Passed Away, Leaving Everyone Devastated

Kenny Spence, a football player who also played baseball at Lemon Grove Little League, tragically passed away on Saturday, July 26, 2025. The cause of death has not been revealed yet.

It is with a heavy heart to say that one of our Rebels received his wings to heaven. Kenny Spence, was an amazing young man who is loved and will be remembered by so many for his genuine kindness and happiness for everyone. Kenny was charismatic, charming and had a smile that would light up a room. I’m heartbroken that such a good young man was taken from us to early.

I have so many fond memories of Kenny’s bright smile and infectious laugh. Kenny’s mother’s best friend, Angelina Thomas, organized the fundraising campaign on GoFundMe to help Kenny’s family with funeral expenses.

The campaign aims to collect over $35,000 and has raised approximately $18,753.

Nunnyah Danbsns also shared the official GoFundMe link and requested donations from everyone. She wrote,
