Will Venable was born on October 29, 1982, at Marin General Hospital in Greenbrae, California, just 15 miles north of San Francisco.
Raised in an athletic family, Will was inspired early on by his parents’ passion for sports.
His father, William McKinley “Max” Venable, was born on June 6, 1957, in Phoenix, Arizona. A multi-sport standout at Cordova High School in Rancho Cordova, California, Max’s athletic talent led him to a career in professional baseball.
After being selected in the 1976 amateur draft, he signed with the Los Angeles Dodgers right out of high school, turning down football scholarship offers.
In 1978, the San Francisco Giants selected him in the Rule 5 draft, setting off a career that saw him play nine years in the National League with the Giants, Montreal Expos, and Cincinnati Reds, as well as three years with the American League’s Los Angeles Angels.
After his MLB career, Max expanded his influence internationally by coaching in Japan’s Nippon Professional Baseball and the Korean Baseball Organization.
