Former Howell High School Football Player Caleb Alan Shermoe Passed Away at 20 Following Fatal Assault!

Caleb Alan Shermoe, a Howell native known for his exceptional football skills, tragically lost his life at 20 after being a victim of a brutal assault.

The Howell High School alumni and footballer, Caleb Alan Shermoe, passed away at the University of Michigan Health -Sparrow Hospital in Lansing on Thursday, January 23, 2025, five days after the assault.

Caleb Alan Shermoe, 20, was assaulted in the 300 block of East Grand River Avenue early Saturday, January 18.

According to reports, The East Lansing Police Department is actively investigating and is seeking charges in connection with the death of Caleb.

Moreover, East Lansing Police Department released a statement regarding the assault and demise of Caleb Alan Shermoe on January 24, 2025.

The ELPD stated that they have been working on this case since the initial call, and through extensive investigation, the ELPD detective bureau was able to locate a suspect, identify that suspect, and gather a statement.

ELPD will seek charges against the assaulter of late Caleb Shermoe through the Ingham County Prosectuor’s Office.

Furthermore, the tragic demise of Caleb Alan Shermoe has left his parents and family members devastated.

He had a great passion for sports from a very young age and showcased his exceptional football skills while attending Fowlerville High School, where he was a member of the Boys Varsity Football team.

He also led his Fowlerville High School team in victory over Midland Bullock Creek during his senior year.

Caleb Alan Shermoe is survived by his parents, Bryant and Karen Shermoe!

Caleb Alan Shermoe was born on August 10, 2004, in Howell, Michigan, to father Bryant Shermoe and mother Karen Shermoe.

Moreover, Caleb was the youngest son of Bryant and Karen Shermoe; he had an elder brother named Garett Shermoe.

After the brutal assault, his mother Karen took to her Facebook to write about the severe condition of Caleb.

She wrote:

“Keep the prayers coming they are having a hard time stabilizing the swelling in his brain and his blood pressure down- keep praying for whole and complete healing.”

Many of Caleb’s friends and loved ones sent their heartfelt prayers to his family.

Talking about his parents, Caleb Alan Shermoe’s father, Bryant Shermoe, is an owner and guide at Shermoe Adventures LLC, a Premiere Iowa Deer Hunting Outfitter business.

Very little information about his mother Karen’s profession as she prefers to maintain a low profile. However, Karen often shares pictures of Caleb on social media, expressing her love for him.

In addition to his parents, his maternal grandparents, Richard and Mary Ann York, Uncle Chuck, Aunt Kathy Crouch, Uncle Greg, Aunt Sandy Maskell, and their son TJ, along with other extended family and friends, continue to remember Caleb Alan Shermoe.

Moreover, Caleb’s family and loved ones organized a celebration of life on Sunday, January 26, 2025, at Brookshire Inn and Golf Club, 205. W. Church St., Williamston.
