Ice Hockey Jack Johnson Is Currently Estranged From His Parents After Financial Mismanagement And Debt Issues!

Financial mismanagement led to a broken family

This article was last updated by on

Since the public fallout over the financial disputes, Jack Johnson’s parents have largely remained private and do not have a good relationship with their son.

Born on January 13, 1987, in Indianapolis, Indiana, Jack Johnson is a seasoned American professional ice hockey defenseman.

He was drafted 3rd overall in the 2005 NHL Entry Draft by the Carolina Hurricanes.

Known for his physical style and offensive instincts, he played for the Los Angeles Kings, Columbus Blue Jackets, Pittsburgh Penguins, New York Rangers, Colorado Avalanche, and Chicago Blackhawks.

Moreover, he is currently on a professional tryout with the Minnesota Wild, aiming to extend his NHL career at age 38.

Jack Johnson’s Parents: From Trusted And Supporting Figure to Tragic Tale

Jack Johnson was born to parents, Jack Johnson Sr. and Tina Johnson. From the beginning, they were deeply involved in his hockey journey.

They even quit their jobs and relocated to Minnesota so Jack could attend the elite Shattuck-Saint Mary’s prep school.

Their support continued as they moved again to Ann Arbor, Michigan, to be near him.

During that time, Jack played for the U.S. National Team Development Program and the University of Michigan.

He often credited them for their sacrifices, saying he owed them more than he could ever repay.

However, this close bond was broken down devastatingly. In 2008, Jack gave his parents power of attorney and control over his finances, trusting them completely.

Tragically, they mismanaged his money, borrowing over $15 million against his future earnings without his full awareness.

They spent lavishly on a beach house, luxury cars, upgrades to their Manhattan Beach property, and travel to watch Jack’s NHL games.

By 2014, Jack filed for bankruptcy, reporting assets under $50,000 and debts exceeding $10 million.

The betrayal led to a complete severing of ties between Jack and his parents.

Despite this painful chapter, Jack has worked to rebuild his life and career, regaining control of his finances and continuing to play in the NHL.

He also has a younger brother, Ken Johnson, with whom he was close during his childhood.

Since the public fallout over the financial disputes, Jack Johnson’s relationship with his parents has been deeply strained.

They have remained private in recent years, and there is little evidence of reconciliation.

The bond between them is widely described as broken, with trust and closeness lost.
