Alex Tanney, NFL coach and former quarterback, has been happily married to his wife, Rebecca Tanney, since 2014.

Tanney, born on November 11, 1987, in Lexington, Illinois, began his athletic career as a standout three-sport athlete at Lexington High School.

He became the school’s all-time leading point scorer and was a two-time Illinois All-State quarterback.

He then went on to shine at Monmouth College, finishing his collegiate career with 157 touchdown passes and the second-most passing yards in NCAA D-III history, with 14,249 yards.

After going undrafted in 2012, Tanney signed with the Kansas City Chiefs but struggled with injuries early in his professional career.

He later played for several NFL teams, including the Dallas Cowboys, Cleveland Browns, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Tennessee Titans (first stint), Buffalo Bills, and Indianapolis Colts.

During his second stint with the Tennessee Titans, he had a notable career highlight in 2016 when he threw his first and only NFL touchdown pass.

In 2018, Tanney joined the New York Giants as the backup quarterback to Eli Manning and announced his retirement on February 9, 2021, after a brief but impactful playing career.

After retiring, he shifted to coaching, taking an offensive quality control role with the Philadelphia Eagles.

Over the next two years, he was promoted within the Eagles’ coaching staff, first to assistant quarterbacks coach and then to quarterbacks coach in 2023.

In February 2024, Tanney took the next step in his career when the Indianapolis Colts hired him as their offensive passing game coordinator.

Alex Tanney and His Wife Rebecca Juggle Parenthood and MS Advocacy

Alex Tanney has been married to his wife, Rebecca Tanney, since July 12, 2014, and they have been happily married for over a decade.

Rebecca is originally from Monmouth, Illinois, and holds American nationality.

Details about her education and parents remain private at the moment.

Professionally, Rebecca is known as a local sports standout, though she prefers to keep a low profile.

She tends to stay out of the public eye, focusing on her family and personal life.

In 2018, Alex paid tribute to Rebecca on Mother’s Day, expressing his gratitude.

Alex’s family faced challenges when his sister, Julia Tanney, was diagnosed with multiple sclerosis (MS) in the early 2010s.

Unfortunately, Julia was diagnosed with Primary Progressive MS, a rare and more aggressive form of the disease.

In response, Alex and Rebecca decided to launch the Tackle MS with Alex Tanney Fund to support MS research and raise awareness. The charity specifically funds the Terry Wahls, M.D. Research Fund.

Alex shared:

It’s a charity Rebecca and I are starting. I’ve really seen the impact of it on her and his (his brother Matt’s) family. It is something that Rebecca and I have talked about doing and its kind of come to fruition. The last few months we’ve been working on it and are really excited. We just got our website up and it is amazing the people who have contacted us — they have someone in their family or they know somebody who has been affected by the disease.

As part of their fundraising efforts, Alex hosted a youth football camp (grades 1-8) at Monmouth College’s April Zorn Memorial Stadium on July 13-14, a golf outing at Gibson Woods, and a dinner/silent auction.

All proceeds went toward the Terry Wahls, M.D. Research Fund, raising nearly $25,000 for MS research in 2018.

The couple also hosted the 2nd Annual TackleMS Charity Event in June 2019 and donated $50,000 to MS research programs.
