Temporary Illness Keeps Him Out

This article was last updated by on

Fernando Tatis Jr., the Dominican MLB star who plays both shortstop and right field for the San Diego Padres, has been a key player for the team this season.

Recently, fans have been inquiring about his health following his absence from the lineup on September 22, 2025.

It’s important to note that Tatis Jr. is not currently injured.

His absence was due to a brief illness, not a physical setback on the field.

Padres manager Mike Shildt confirmed that Tatis woke up feeling unwell, which led to his rest for that day’s game against the Milwaukee Brewers.

In his place, Ryan O’Hearn started in right field to maintain the team’s competitive lineup.

Before this, Tatis had been playing regularly, marking his 152nd game of the season on September 21.

Over the course of the season, he has achieved career highs in runs scored (108) and stolen bases (32), while maintaining a solid performance with a .267 batting average, 23 home runs, and 66 RBIs.

Despite missing the September 22 game, there are no reports of any long-term injuries.

His absence from the lineup was solely due to illness, and he is expected to return to action once he has fully recovered.

The Padres are closely monitoring his condition and will provide updates as necessary.

Fans can look forward to seeing Tatis Jr. back on the field soon, contributing to the team’s success.

Fernando Tatis Jr. Overcomes Multiple Injuries Throughout His Career

Fernando Tatis Jr. has faced several injuries throughout his MLB career, which have occasionally affected his playing time.

On April 5, 2021, he suffered a left shoulder subluxation while swinging at a pitch against the San Francisco Giants, leading to a brief stint on the 10-day injured list.

Later that same year, Tatis was sidelined due to an oblique strain on June 2 and back spasms in mid-August, resulting in him missing additional games.

In 2022, he faced a significant setback when he underwent surgery for a fractured scaphoid bone in his left wrist, which kept him out for the entire season.

Complications from the injury, along with an 80-game suspension in August 2022 for testing positive for Clostebol, further delayed his return to the field.

In 2024, Tatis suffered a quadriceps injury that placed him on the 10-day injured list in June and later on the 60-day injured list, forcing him to miss 59 games.

He made a comeback in late August 2024, demonstrating his resilience and commitment to the team’s success.

In May 2025, Tatis was briefly sidelined after being hit on the forearm by a pitch, but X-rays were negative, and he returned shortly afterward.

Throughout his career, Tatis has shown remarkable determination in recovering from injuries and regaining his performance.

Despite past setbacks, Tatis Jr. remains a dynamic and influential player for the San Diego Padres, consistently exciting fans with his exceptional talent.
