On his social media, unlike many other athletes, Adams hasn’t hinted he follows any particular religion. But the midfielder has been seen celebrating Christmas with his family.
In 2020, Tyler was seen posing for a photograph in front of a Christmas tree. He wished his followers a merry Christmas and announced he was giving away his signed shirt.
Born and raised in New York, Tyler certainly got to experience various cultures. Raised by a single mother, Melissa Russo, Tyler’s biological dad was never present in his life.
The mother-son duo lived in Poughkeepsie, New York, and lived in a small two-bedroom apartment, which used to be just below their uncle’s. A supportive mother, Melissa played a pivotal role in her son’s life.
Tyler said seeing his mom work hard inspired him as a kid. Melissa rejoined uni after Tyler reached second grade, and the two would go to the library after Melissa came home from her full-time job so she could concentrate on her studies.
When Tyler was in seventh grade, his stepdad, Darryl Sullivan, entered his and Melissa’s life. He met Darryl through his teammate, who has now become his brother. In an interview, Tyler mentioned his stepdad’s family is from Scotland and are diehard Rangers fans.
Tyler said Darryl’s arrival in his life made him soccer-obsessed, and it was perfect for him. Adams added his father always had his back and instilled much-needed confidence.
Tyler Adams Brothers: Darryl Jr, Dylan, And Donovan Sullivan
The AFC Bournemouth midfielder has no biological brothers but has three stepbrothers. The oldest of the three, Darryl Jr, was a soccer teammate to Tyler.
It was one time after school that Darryl approached Tyler and complimented his skills. After that, the two saw their parents grow closer, and now they share a lifelong connection.
Unlike his brother, Darryl Jr ventured into football and left soccer. He played offensive line for Marist College and graduated in 2021. He then enrolled at Robert Morris University and nowadays works as an Account Representative for Total Quality Logistics.
Tyler’s other stepbrother, Dylan, has followed in his footsteps and is a soccer player for New York Red Bulls II. He graduated from Clemson University last year, and during his time at Clemson, he played 38 games, scoring three goals.
