Istela Nunes suffered a horrific injury in her UFC Vegas 77 fight on Saturday in Las Vegas. The fighter dislocated her elbow in the first round of the matchup.
Istela Nunes is a Brazilian professional MMA fighter who currently fights in the strawweight division of the UFC.
Nunes made her UFC debut in October 2021 and has competed in several fights since then. She represents the American Top Team Brasil.
Although Nunes is still hunting for her first victory in the UFC, she had been extensively decorated in Muay Thai before switching to MMA.
The Rio De Janeiro native accumulated 50 victories and just four defeats in the discipline. Further, she captured the WMF and WMO Muay Thai World Titles along the way.
In fact, she is the first Brazilian woman to become World Champion in Thailand. The MMA community hopes that she recovers quickly from the gruesome injury.

Talking about the UFC star’s relationship, Istela Nunes’s wife is not in the picture quite yet. However, she is engaged and in a romantic relationship with her fiancee, Katie Hohmann.
The sports couple have been dating for some time and are engaged in combat sports. The connection kindled the romance, and their bond grew over time.
On December 5, 2022, the two-time world Muay Thai champion proposed to her partner during their visit to Disney World, Orlando.
Hohmann, despite being taken aback by the gesture, said yes to Nunes’s proposal.
Nunes posted the pictures and video of the joyous occasion on her Instagram handle, captioning, “She said yes.”
She further wrote, “Your love made the world more beautiful and made me learn to look at our relationship in an infinite way. I would choose you even in another life”.

Katie Hohmann is a Sport and Performance LMT (Licensed Massage Therapist) at Revitalize Sports and Rehabilitative Therapy.
Hohmann regularly works as her UFC star fiancee’s therapist. Further, she has a demonstrated history of working in the health, wellness, and fitness industry.
Similarly, Hohmann is currently enrolled in a Master of Exercise Science and on the way to a Doctorate.
In the past, she has worked as a soccer coach, individual trainer, performance coach, and nutrition coach before opening her own company and becoming a massage therapist.
In addition, Hohmann is also a prominent Brazilian jiu-jitsu fighter who has won the gold medal in three IBJJF Jiu-Jitsu Championships.
Istela Nunes Family: Parents And Brothers
The Brazilian fighter has a humble family background. Her mother worked as a cleaning lady, whereas her father was an artist-craftsman.
She was born in a modest household in the municipality of Pau dos Ferros, located in the Rio Grande de Norte state of Brazil.
Growing up with her older and younger brothers, Nunes enjoyed an active childhood filled with sports and cherished moments with her family.
At the age of five, her father enrolled all three of his children in capoeira, a traditional Brazilian martial art. It marked the beginning of her martial arts journey.
Nunes transitioned to Muay Thai when she was ten through her mother’s connection with an instructor. Evidently, she mastered the discipline.
Her mother, Zilda Nunes, and her brothers were a constant support throughout her journey. Sadly, Nunes lost her father in late 2016.
Nunes still has a great relationship with her family, and they rarely have any conflicts.
