Jake Oettinger signed an 8-year contract with the Dallas Stars, keeping him with the team through the 2032-33 season.

Jakob Oettinger, known by the nickname Otter or Phenomenotter, is a professional ice hockey goaltender for the Dallas Stars of the NHL.

Known for his impressive saves and consistent performance, Oettinger has become one of the top goaltenders in the league.

In 2017, the Stars drafted him 26th overall in the NHL Draft after he played for Boston University and the USA Hockey National Team Development Program.

Moreover, he was named the Dallas Star of the Month for October 2023 due to his exceptional play.

Jake Oettinger Signed An Eight-Year Contract Extension With The Dallas Stars

Jake Oettinger will gain $66 million throughout his eight-year contract extension with the Dallas Stars.

Starting in the 2025-26 season, the deal has an average annual value of $8.25 million.

After-tax deductions, he is estimated to take home around $5.22 million annually.

Additionally, David Pagnotta, an NHL insider, tweeted the brief of his contract via his official X account and stated:

The math isn’t simple, given the factors (jock tax, state income tax vs none, place of residence, NA/EUR, etc.), but simplifying things per

@CP_Athlete calculator, as an example: $8.25M in DAL sees someone takeaway ~$5.22M after taxes. $12M in NYC leads to ~$5.29M after taxes.

This extension highlights the Stars’ commitment to building around their young core and securing one of the league’s premier goaltenders for the long term.

Previously, his contract with the Dallas Stars was a 3-year, $12 million deal signed on September 1, 2022. This contract had an average annual value of $4 million.

The new contract has a significantly higher average annual value than the previous one.

Moreover, the team invested substantially in Oettinger due to his potential as a free agency, showcasing his increased value to the franchise.
