Jim Brown, one of the most respected American footballers, civil rights activists, and actors, was the proud father of six children he shared with his first and second wives.
Former footballer Jim Brown married Sue Brown in September 1959 at the age of 23. The couple had been together for around 10 years, during which time they welcomed twin sons, Kim Brown and Kevin Brown, in 1960. The couple had another son in 1962.
After 6 years of their children’s birth, the couple separated in 1968, when his wife sued for divorce, charging him with “gross neglect.”
Only after 4 years the divorce was finalized, where the player paid $2,500 per month in alimony and $100 per week for child support.
After his first marriage broke out, the player stayed unmarried for decades and primarily focused on his rising football career.
Jim Brown Married His Second Wife, Monique Brown, in 1997!
Model and philanthropist Monique Brown is the second wife of Jim Brown, one of the greatest players in NFL history.
However, before Monique, he almost married a Clark College student, Diane Stanley, who was 18 years old at the time. He first met her in Acapulco, Mexico, in April of that year and proposed to her in December 1973.
After months of dating, the couple quickly decided to take their relationship to another level; however, in 1974, their engagement broke off before they could tie the knot.
Later, he started dating Monique Brown, whom he met in 1995 at a local TV station in Buffalo, New York, where the footballer was giving an interview, and Monique was a model there.
Jim quickly found Monique attractive and decided to make a move to approach Monique; apart from being a model, Monique was also a very thoughtful woman, working on various philanthropy projects.
When the couple started dating, there was controversy about their distinct age gap: Monique Brown was almost 40 years younger than Jim Brown.
At the time of their dating, Monique Brown was 21, and Jim was 59. However, despite the controversy, the couple tied the knot in 1997 and stayed together until Jim Brown’s passing on May 18, 2023.
During their over twenty-year marriage, they had two children, Artis Brown and Morgan Brown.
Monique Brown announced the passing of her husband through her official Instagram account, writing:
It is with profound sadness that I announce the passing of my husband, Jim Brown. He passed peacefully last night at our LA home. To the world he was an activist, actor, and football star. T our family, he was a loving and wonderful husband, father, and grandfather. Our hearts are broken…
