Former professional ice hockey player Johnny Bucyk is married to his wife, Terri Bucyk. He was married previously to Anne, but she died due to a brief illness.
According to sources, Anne was in her 70s when she was diagnosed with a rare form of colitis and died after a year in Topsfield due to the illness.
Johnny was devastated by his wife’s death. After some time, he met his second wife, Terri Reinbach-Bucyk.
John Paul “Chief” Bucyk is a Canadian former professional ice hockey left winger and member of the Hockey Hall of Fame.
He was born on May 12, 1935, in Edmonton to parents Sam and Pearl Bucyk, who were Ukrainian immigrants from the village of Butsive.
The hockey player comes from a poor family background which prevented him from owning a pair of ice skates until he was 13 years old.
In 1955, Bucyk played junior hockey for four seasons for his hometown Edmonton Oli Kings before signing with the Detroit Red Wings.
Bucyk played with the Boston Bruins for most of his career. He was also named one of the ‘100 Greatest NHL Players’ in 2017.
The Hall of Famer retired from his playing career in 1980 due to his injury after surrendering his captaincy to Wayne Cashman.
Johnny Bucyk’s Wife
The former ice hockey player had quite a fulfilling marriage life. Anne Bucyk was his first wife.
The couple were married for a total of 53-plus years before Anne’s death due to a brief illness. Together, they had three children together.
During her last days, she resided in a Topsfield rehabilitation center in hopes of getting better from the disease in order to return to her family’s home in nearby Boxford.
Unfortunately, she couldn’t fight the disease and died beside her husband at the age of 79.
Johnny was shattered because of his wife’s death. But after some time, he married his second wife, Terri.
Johnny now lives a happy life with Terri. The couple loves their dog. They watch movies together and also go for long drives to change the monotonous way of life.
Bucyk got him from a breeder in Pennsylvania after his wife saw the dog on the internet.
Life After Retirement
The former left winger has been enjoying a peaceful and private retirement life. The 88-year-old now enjoys his life in privacy.
At the time of his retirement, Bucyk was fourth all-time in points behind only Gordie Howe, Esposito, and Stan Mikita).
He scored 545 goals as a Bruin, making the most franchise in history.
Johnny has been awarded numerous honors even after his retirement. He was inducted into the Hockey Hall of Fame in 1981.
In 2017, Bucyk was part of the first group of players to be named one of the ”100 Greatest NHL Players”.
To date, he remains affiliated with the Bruins serving on various occasions as a radio broadcaster and in the front office.
