Jon Jones: Professional Career

Jones entered the UFC with a 7-0 and took a fight on short notice against Andre Gusmao on August 9, 2008. He was a replacement fighter but took advantage of the opportunity to showcase his skills.

In the next UFC fight, he faced Stephen Bonnar, a well-experienced veteran, on January 31, 2009. Unfortunately, the match was not even close between both fighters as Jones was still an underdog going in.

But ‘Bones’ proved that night he could also face a veteran fighter with his extraordinary spinning back elbow and suplex. As a result, Jon won the match with a unanimous decision.

In 2012, he fought against Brandon Vera and Vladimir Matyushenko and won both after getting his first title against the three-champion Mauricio “Shogun” Rua.

According to Jon Jones, the most challenging match he ever played was against Swedish Fighter Alexander Gustafson at UFC 165 on September 23, 2013. Both suffered lacerations and facial swelling, but Jones took the trophy.

On July 29, 2017, Jones experienced one of the most significant wins. He defeated Daniel Cormier at UFC 214 in Anaheim, Calif. After an impressive win against his worthy rival; Jones was in tears of joy.

After his 2017 suspension was lifted, Jones claimed the championship in 2018 by winning the fight against Alexander Gustafson.

In 2020 Jones voluntarily vacated the title amid a pay dispute with UFC president White and cited the intent to move up to heavyweight.

Jon Jones: Controversies

The MMA star was accused of a potential drug violation by the United States Anti-Doping Agency (USADA). He tested positive for Turinabol and also the test for the “B” sample, which came back positive too.

As a result of which Jones was banned from several matches. He even had to step down from the Light Heavyweight title and could have been banned for four years.

On May 19, 2012, Jon got involved in a minor accident when he crashed his car into a pole in Binghamton, New York, after a night of partying.

Jones was taken into custody after refusing to take a sobriety test. He was told to give a $1,000 fine two months later, and his driver’s license was suspended for six months.

Likewise, in 2014, Jon was involved in another major controversy. The Nevada State Athletic Commission(NCAC) charged him $50,000 for brawling with Daniel Cormier at a UFC 178 press event.

Also, he was handed 40 hours of community service work.

In early 2015, Jones became a primary suspect in a hit-and-run-incident after New Mexico police allegations. Thus, he could not match Anthony Johnson that year.

The incident led him to be sentenced to 18 months and subsequently stripped off his belt by the UFC. In addition to that, Jones was also accused of writing homophobic slurs to a Swedish fan on Instagram in 2014.

In March 2020, Jon was arrested again for DUI and negligent use of a firearm.

The Youngest UFC Champion

Jon Jones took the trophy of UFC champion at 23. But, with a game against Mauricio ‘Shogun’ Rua at UFC 128 on March 19, 2011, for the Light Heavyweight title, Jones put a brilliant performance.

He defeated Shogun via a third-round TKO and won 205 lbs. With this, Jones inked his name in the history books as the youngest UFC champion ever and has yet to be broken.

Jon sents spinning kicks, elbows, and everything one could imagine at the champion in the fight. He finished off Mauricio on the ground with what could only be described as an excessive justified force.

Moreover, Jones has secured wins over an impressive list of highly accomplished MMA competitors, including Quinton Jackson, Lyoto Machindo, Vitor Belfort, Chael Sonnen, and Alexander Gustafsson.

Fighting Style of Jon Jones

Bones is one of the best at controlling distance. He fights his opponent with his hands and measures the distance.

Jon’s techniques are very effective, and he can be caught cleanly by a few opponents. But often hits them in the eye and becomes difficult to stop.

Overall, Jon Jones is a well-rounded fighter with few gaps in his game.

Jon Jone & Matt Hamill

Several discussions and controversies came out when Jones lost a fight by disqualification against Matt Hamill back in December 2009.

Jon used a devasting elbow technique (12-6) where the elbow comes in a punching motion toward an opponent.

This technique was banned in the UFC, so referee Steve Mazzagatti announced a stop to the fight and gave a winning award to Matt Hamill.

The UFC president Dana White was dismayed by the decision and stated an elbow to the ground; they deduced Jone’s point. He also cleared that it was Hamill’s shoulder injury, due to which he couldn’t continue the fight, not because of Jone’s elbow.

In his fight against Jon, Hamill suffered a dislocated shoulder. Unfortunately, referee Steve didn’t see it coming, and this loss remains on Jones’ record that can never be erased.

The loss is controversial on Jone’s record since he has never lost a single fight.

Jon Jones: Wife & Children

Jon married Jessie Moses in 2013. Together the couple has three daughters; Leah (born in 2008), Carmen Nicole Jones, and Olivia Haven.

Likewise, the two have been together for 17 years. Jessie was born in 1987 and is a native of Endicott, New York. Reportedly, the couple started meeting and started dating when they attended Endicott High School.

Jessie and Jones were expecting their first child when the former UFC champion started pursuing a career in MMA in 2008.

Jon’s wife Jessie does not appear on public social media platforms like Instagram and Twitter.

Jon Jones: Net Worth

Jon has fought nearly 26 times, with one loss and no contest to his name. Since ‘Bones’ acquired enormous success, it’s no wonder his net worth is far more than other UFC fighters.

According to some online sources, Jon Jones’s estimated UFC career earnings sum up to $7,230,000. However, the amount is from a fight-by-fight division of Jones’ career earnings and does not include bonuses, sponsorships, and other incentive pay.

Jon signed a worldwide sponsorship deal with Nike, becoming the first UFC fighter to do so. While this is an impressive achievement, his other sponsorship deals with the corporate giant did not last long.

All in all, Jones’s total net worth is $12 million.
