Josh Prenot: Early Life & Family
Joshua Prenot was born on July 28, 1993, in Sedalia, Missouri, to parents William and Tammy Prenot. While there is no information about tammy’s occupation, William is a retired U.S air force Lt. Col., who served for 20 years.
As a military child, josh had to move from place to place along with his parents. But his parents still remember how well he adapted to everywhere they went.
In an interview, his mother also mentioned how they met varieties of coaches along the way who guided him tremendously.
Being an army brat played a major role in developing key personality traits like discipline, punctuality, and work ethics. He also took up a passion for fitness from his father, which helped him along the way.

Like most of the swimmers of his caliber, he started training at a young age. In fact, he was just six when he began competitive swimming.

Joshua Prenot: Career
Since his early years, he has participated in national and international competitions as a member of the USA Swimming national junior team.
At the 2010 Junior Pan Pacific Championships, he placed fifth in the 400m IM and sixth in the 200m butterfly.
Collegiate
Though he started to swim early, his talent shined through during his college year. He played for California Golden Bears during 2012-2016.
During his freshman year, Josh was named the Pac 12 Newcomer after winning 400m IM.
Prenot placed fourth in 400m IM and fifth in the 200 breaststrokes and 200Im at the NCAA championships that season, earning all-America honors.
Likewise, he defended his 400m IM title at the 2014 Pac 12 and finished third in an NCAA championship. All the while, he also set new school records in the events.
In 2015, he won another gold in 400-yard IM and two silvers in the 200-yard breast and 200yard IM.
But it was in 2016 when we saw his best. He had his highest ever fish at the NCAA when he won gold in 400IM with a brilliant time of 3.35.82. In addition, he finished second in 200Im and 200 breaststrokes.
Pro Career
He started his pro career in 2016 as a member of the Adidas team. Adidas announced this partnership on December 5th, 2016, via social media.
Following that, Prenot stated that he was excited to see how innovative Adidas products will help him reach his pinnacle.
In the 2017 winter national championships, he finished first in the 100m butterfly at 45.81. Meanwhile, he finished fourth and sixth respectively in 200 and 100 breaststroke.
Moreover, in the 2018 US nationals, he won gold in 200m breast at 2.07.28 while he finished fifth and seventh in 200m IM and 100m breaststroke, respectively.
During the 2018 short course world championships in Hangzhou, he won silver in 200 IM.
For the 2019 International swimming league, he signed with LA current as a team member.

Joshua Prenot: Olympic Experience
To be an Olympic champion is a major dream of almost every athlete, and Josh is no different. He took his first Olympic trial in 2012, at the age of 19, hoping to make it to. London.
He finished 10th overall in the 200m breast, 13th in the 400Im, and 14th in the 200IM.
Although he had to wait four years to materialize that dream, it gave him more time to be extra skilled.
In the 2016 US Olympic trials, he broke the US record in the 200m breaststroke with a time of 2:07:17. This is also the 4th fastest race time in the event ever.
The U.S team had high hopes for Prenot during his Olympic debut. And he did not disappoint!
In a highly competitive 200m breaststroke race, he earned silver with a time of 2:07:53. This silver was the first Olympic medal for the US in 200m breast since 2004.
Besides that, he also took part in 200 IM and 400 IM but didn’t have a podium finish.

Josh Prenot: Possible Retirement
2020 and the coronavirus pandemic has been difficult for all of us. Postponing of the 2020 Olympics took a major toll on athletes around the world.
In addition to all that, Josh faced bigger disappointment as he failed to qualify in the Tokyo Olympics trials.
The 2016 silver medalist made the 17th best time of 2.13.42 seconds, where the only top 16 advanced to the semifinals.
Following the race, he explained his state of mind via a thread of tweets. He apologized to well-wishers for a bad performance and said he would be taking at least a year off swimming.
On one of those tweets, he wrote, “I have pursued peak performance for the past five years, and how rarely I have found it has really broken my brain.”
He also added that he is passed off most of the time for not achieving what he’s capable of.
Will he be back?
However, he has not taken his name off the anti-doping lists yet, but the chances of him returning to professional swimming look slim.
