Marathon Athlete and Physician Dr. Eric Wolfe Dies of Heart Attack During Muncie IRONMAN 70.3, Survived by Wife Casiee and Three Children

Dr. Eric Wolfe, a 43-year-old physician and triathlon athlete, passed away after falling ill during the Muncie, Indiana, IRONMAN 70.3 triathlon on July 12, 2025.

According to reports, Delaware County Coroner Gavin Greene confirmed that the cause of the untimely death of Dr. Eric Wolfe was “myocardial infarction, due to ischemic heart disease.

Wolfe, a native of Iola, Kansas, was taking part in the 1.2-mile swim, a part of the annual triathlon, when race safety personnel noticed he needed immediate medical attention.

He was pulled from Prairie Creek Reservoir and taken to IU Health Ball Memorial Hospital.

Similarly, Dr. Eric Wolfe remained on life support until July 17 to allow for organ donation.

Race officials and Coroner Greene expressed their condolences to Wolfe’s family and the IRONMAN community, praising the efforts of safety teams and medical staff during the incident.

Similarly, many of his loved ones are paying tribute to the late Wolfe and extending their heartfelt condolences to his family during this difficult time.

Dr. Eric Christopher Wolfe is survived by his wife of 22 years, Casiee Michael Wolfe, three kids, Lynna, Evan, and Faith, father Dr. Brian D. Wolfe, and step-mother Susan Lynn of Iola, brothers, Jeffrey Wolfe (Tonda), Dr. Mark Wolfe(Sasha), parents-in-law, Jeff and Vannesa Michael and the whole family.

Dr. Eric Wolfe Excelled as a Physician and Triathlon Athlete

Dr. Eric Wolfe touched the lives of many as both an accomplished athlete and a dedicated physician.

A native of Iola, Kansas, Eric graduated from Iola High School in 1999 before attending Oklahoma Christian University for three years. He also graduated from Pittsburg State University with a Bachelor of Science in Biology.

Similarly, after receiving his doctorate of osteopathic medicine from Kansas City University College of Osteopathic Medicine, Eric began pursuing his career in the medical field.

A family physician living in Branson, Missouri, Wolfe joined Jordan Valley Community Health in 2019, caring for patients in Springfield and Hollister, after practicing medicine in Iola and Herington for years.

In addition to his medical career, the late Dr. Eric Wolfe won the hearts of many with his amazing athletic skills.

He won an honorable title in 1999 during the Wichita Marathon and ran several marathons until his untimely demise.

Eric’s contribution to the community as an athlete and physician will always be remembered.

Furthermore, the Branson, Missouri community has organized a fundraiser to help Eric’s family cover the financial expenses during this difficult time.
