Kareem Hunt is a gifted running back playing for the Kansas City Chiefs. Although his family life has been complicated, he pushed through it all to excel in his NFL career.
Kareem was born on August 6, 1995, in Elyria, Ohio. He is the son of Kareem Hunt Sr. and Stephanie Riggins.
His parents have gone through troubles that have cast a shadow over Kareem’s life and football career.
Father Kareem Hunt Sr. was born in Cleveland, Ohio, on June 10, 1966. He went to Collinwood High School and left in 1990.
He has a troubled past, with multiple arrests for drug-related offenses and domestic violence.
In early 2023, Kareem Hunt Sr. was arrested again on drug charges after allegedly being caught selling crack cocaine and possessing marijuana in an Elyria hotel room.
According to the report, he was sentenced to a total of nine years in prison on nine felony convictions, although it is unknown how much time he spent in jail for dozens of lesser counts.
Even with these issues, he still participates in Kareem’s life and attends his games often, being a proud father.
Kareem Hunt Overcame His Family’s Drama-Filled Past to Become an NFL Running Back!
Kareem’s mother, Stephanie Riggins, has always been by his side. Initially from Elyria, Stephanie mostly raised him independently due to problems with Kareem Sr.
Stephanie has had her brushes with the law; in 2014, she was arrested for possession of drugs and admitted to driving drunk.
She has always committed to her son’s success and often attends his games, cheering him on.
Likewise, Kareem has also expressed how thankful he is for his mother. His family dynamics are because his parents separated.
Stephanie remarried on August 20, 2007; however, she and her new husband also had a run-in with the law.
According to court records, his older brother, Clarence Riggins, received a sentence of more than two years in prison after a 2014 conviction for criminal trespass.
Through all that was happening within his family and their drama-filled past, Kareem Hunt pushed through to become a running back in the NFL.
He was a Pro Bowler in his first season and, at that time, led the league in rushing yards.

On January 19, 2025, he recorded 44 rushing yards and scored a touchdown in the recent playoff game against the Houston Texans, propelling his team to the AFC Championship for the seventh straight year.
His parents’ struggles have affected him, but they also gave him a strong will to do well.
As he progresses in his career, Kareem Sr. and Stephanie are always there to support him in life, attending games and celebrating their son’s successes just like any other proud parents.
