Joseph Colodne Was Involved In Coaching For Over 18 Years!
Joseph Colodne was a passionate soccer player before transitioning into coaching.
He played collegiate soccer at Rider University in 1997 and 1998 as part of the Broncs men’s soccer team, demonstrating his dedication and skill on the field.
His playing career laid the foundation for his deep understanding of the game, which later influenced his approach as a coach.
He earned his bachelor’s degree in History from Rider University in 2002, combining his love for sports with a commitment to education.
He spent seven seasons as an assistant coach for the Kean University Women’s Soccer team.
Before joining Kean, he served as an assistant women’s soccer and goalkeeper coach at Drew University from 2014 to 2018.
He coached at World Class FC from 2016 to 2018 and FC Copa from 2009 to 2016, guiding teams to remarkable achievements.
His leadership helped secure two US Club regional titles and a finalist spot in the NJ Youth Soccer State Cup.
Additionally, he coached the #1 team in New Jersey and the #5 team in the U.S. at the U18 level.
Beyond the soccer field, Joseph was a history teacher at Plainfield High School.
Similarly, he held multiple coaching certifications, including the NSCAA Advanced National Diploma, National Diploma, and Goalkeeping Diploma, as well as a USSF National License.
He was also working toward earning his NSCAA Director of Coaching Certification.
His dedication to both sports and academics left a lasting impact on those he mentored.
His sudden passing has left a void in the hearts of his family, friends, players, and colleagues.
The Kean University athletic community mourns his loss, reflecting on his lasting impact both on and off the field.
One of his former students, Eduardo Flores, paid a heartbreaking tribute to Colodne, saying:
Thank you for being more than a teacher — you were a mentor, a guide, and a kind soul who made history come alive. For every praise, laugh, and heartfelt conversation, thank you! Your passion, your stories, and your unwavering belief in your students left a mark that time won’t erase.
Needless to say, I am truly saddened to hear of your passing. My sincere condolences to your wife, children, and immediate loved ones.
You will be deeply missed, but never forgotten. A gem in this generation.
Likewise, his childhood friend highlights the generosity Joseph carried throughout his life, saying:
