Paul, an American professional baseball player, was born on September 10, 1987. He attended The Woodlands High School in Texas and played for the Texas State Bobcats.

The Arizona Diamondbacks selected him in the eighth round of the 2009 MLB draft, and he made his MLB debut with them in 2011.

In the 2018-19 offseason, D-backs traded him to the Cardinals for Luke Weaver, Carson Kelly, Andy Young, a Round B pick in the 2019 MLB draft.
