KIPP HS Student-Athlete Xyere Brooks’ Parents And Siblings Are Mourning His Loss, Describing It As A Tragic Accident!

Xyere Brooks, a 16-year-old sophomore and standout football player at KIPP High School in Camden, New Jersey, tragically passed away, leaving his family, football community, and well-wishers heartbroken.

Known for his leadership, dedication, and skills, he was considered one of the best in South Jersey for his age.

Tragically, Xyere Brooks was shot inside a home on the 1500 block of Thorn Street in Camden, New Jersey, on June 6, 2025, at around 12:35 p.m.

After being shot, Brooks was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where he was pronounced dead two hours later.

His family has described the incident as a tragic accident, though no criminal charges have been filed yet.

Multiple juveniles were present in the home when the gun was discharged.

Reports indicate that between three and several teens were inside at the time, and authorities are still investigating the circumstances.

Xyere Brooks Was A Rising Star In High School Football!

Xyere Brooks was a standout football player at KIPP High School in Camden, New Jersey.

He had already caught the attention of Division 1 schools like Syracuse and Rutgers, which were interested in recruiting him for their programs.

His talent on the field was undeniable, and he was seen as a rising star with a promising future in college football.

Xyere was a promising young athlete with a bright future ahead, and his sudden death has left many mourning and reflecting on the tragedy.

His mother, Antoinette Brooks, spoke publicly about his tragic passing.

She expressed concerns about unsupervised teenagers and the dangers they may unknowingly bring into their homes, saying:

These parents that are leaving their unsupervised teenage kids at home…and not knowing what they may come into their homes with, there has to be a better way.

Xyere’s older brother, Manazh Tompkins, also shared details about the incident, describing it as an accident, saying:

She put the gun to his head, and I guess she didn’t expect it to go off… the gun went off on my brother, and he’s no longer here with us.

His loved ones have described him as a dedicated student, loyal teammate, and beloved son, and the community has come together to honor his memory.

On Monday, a vigil was held for Xyere Brooks, attended by many of his loved ones.

Additionally, his mother expressed her grief, saying he meant everything to her and had a promising future ahead, saying:

He meant the world to me, He meant everything to me. My son, Xyere Brooks, he was an up and coming young man who had a bright future.
