Born in May 1986, Kirby Bumpus is the eldest child of Gayle King, an American television personality, author, and broadcast journalist for CBS News.

Kirby completed her undergraduate studies at Stanford University before earning a Masters’s in Public Health from Columbia University Mailman School of Public Health.

Kirby’s career spans over a decade; she began as a researcher at the Harlem Health Promotion Center.

Her professional journey also led her to the Robin Hood Foundation as a Program Officer and to the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, where she spent five years working on public health initiatives.

Kirby’s most notable role was as a Senior Policy Advisor at the White House’s Office of First Lady Michelle Obama, contributing to the “Let’s Move” campaign that promoted nutrition and physical activity for children and their families.

Transitioning into the corporate world, Kirby joined Under Armour in digital marketing, playing a crucial role in expanding the brand through integrations with popular fitness apps.

Born in 1981, Miller enrolled at FAMU in 1999 and graduated in 2003 with a Bachelor of Science in Biology. He continued his education at FAMU and obtained a Master of Public Health degree in 2005.

While at FAMU, Miller was involved in various organizations, such as the White and Gold Honor Society, the FAMU branch of the NAACP, etc.

He was also a drum major with the Marching 100 and served as Student Government President from 2004 to 2005.

After graduate school, Miller interned in the office of State Rep. Curtis Richardson, D-Tallahassee.

He later established himself on Capitol Hill in Washington, D.C., serving as chief of staff for former U.S. Rep. Cedric Richmond for over ten years.

In this role, he was a liaison between Rep. Richmond and two presidential administrations, coordinating activities and strategies for successful bill passage.

Miller’s contributions spanned various areas, including job creation, cybersecurity, energy, flood protection, disaster recovery, critical infrastructure protection, and global nuclear detection.

Before joining Rep. Richmond’s office, Miller worked as a health policy advisor for Chairman John Dingell.

Earlier in his career, he served as a health policy fellow for Rep. Edolphus Towns, contributing to crucial health policy agendas.

In March 2019, Miller became a senior policy advisor at the influential law firm Akin Gump in Washington, D.C., where he continues to make a difference in the policy landscape.

The couple announced their engagement publicly in February 2019, and less than two years later, they exchanged vows in December 2020.

Originally planning a grand wedding, the couple had to adjust their plans due to the COVID-19 pandemic.

Opting for a small ceremony, Kirby and Virgil said their “I do” at the home of Oprah Winfrey, Kirby’s godmother and a close family friend.

The intimate ceremony followed strict COVID protocols and included just six attendees, such as Gayle King, Winfrey, and Winfrey’s partner Stedman Graham.

Their happiness multiplied in September 2021 when Kirby and Virgil welcomed their first child, Luca.

With the love and support of their loved ones, Kirby Bumpus and Virgil are cherishing their married life and embracing the joys of parenthood.
