LaGrange High School’s Volleyball and football player Dezhaun Artis’s death left his family in shock.
Dezhaun Artis played football as a defensive back for Reinhardt University in Waleska, Georgia.
Standing at 5 feet 9 inches and weighing 160 pounds, Artis joined Reinhardt’s football program as part of the 2018 recruiting class after graduating from LaGrange High School.
During high school, he was a three-year letterman and recorded 56 tackles.
In addition, he was a member of the Omaha Volleyball Subs.
Dezhaun’s official LinkedIn profile said he pursued his bachelor’s degree from the University of Nebraska at Omaha.
From July 2019 to May 2023, Dezhaun was the grocery clerk at McKinney’s Food Center Limited Liability Company.
Later, he served as a full-time law clerk at Atwood, Holsten, Brown, Deaver, Spier & Israel Law Firm, PC, and LLO.
He was set to receive his Juris Doctorate from the University of Nebraska College of Law in May 2025.
Omaha Volleyball Subs Dezhaun Artis Passed Away At A Young Age
The Omaha Volleyball Subs and football player Dezhaun Artis passed away in April 2025 at 23. However, the cause of death has not been revealed yet.
Doane University graduate Heriberto Valdez Luna took to his official Facebook handle and mourned the loss of Dezhaun. He wrote,
Man, this one hurts. Rest in Peace to my boy Dezhaun Artis, loved by many many people, always had a smile on your face, always was there ready to play whenever needed. You brought laughter and joy to many, it aint gunna be the same without you, going to miss you lots foolie. God has an another angel beside him in heaven now.

Omaha, Nebraska, resident and former bartender manager at Blacksmith, Danny Wages, also took to his Facebook handle and remembered the days of practicing with him. He wrote,
RIP Dezhaun Artis. I remember just a couple weeks ago doing some setting practices with you. You were always a super competitive and fun person to be around on the court. You will truly be missed my dude!!

An Omaha Bryan High School graduate, Lisa Rodriguez, offered heartfelt condolences and sent prayers to Dezhaun’s family. She wrote,
Not sure if this allowed but I wanted to help Chyna Artis Hernandez . Dezhaun Artis was a big part of our volleyball and we share our deepest condolences to you and your family. If you have any thoughts or memories to share about him, please send them to her. Dez was loved and he always brought a smile to my face whenever we would hang out or play together. I’m so sorry for your loss.

Other close friends and relatives have also expressed their heartfelt condolences and sent prayers for Dezhaun’s family to stay strong in this challenging moment.

Dezhaun Artis Is Survived By His Parents And Sister Chyna Artis Hernandez
Dezhaun Artis was raised by his mother, Kierstian Artis, and his father, whose identity has not been revealed.
They have supported Dezhaun in achieving his athletic dreams since childhood.
Currently, they are devastated by the shocking death of Dezhaun.
Kierstian Artis was born to her father, Gregory Artis, and her mother, Taj Yolanda. Her father graduated from West High School in 1970 and worked as a pharmacist.
Sadly, Gregory passed away on August 2, 2008, in Lincoln, Illinois, at 56, from the complications of Lou Gehrig’s disease (ALS).
In addition, Dezhaun Artis shared a strong bond with his sister, Chyna Artis Hernandez, a licensed cosmetologist.
Recently, Chyna took to her official Facebook handle and requested everyone to post pictures of Dezhaun Artis for his funeral service. She wrote,
Please post any pictures you have with Dezhaun Artis for his service. Here are some that I’ve gotten from friends so far. Thank you for everyone who’s reaching out sharing your stories that my brother shared with you all. It’s truly beautiful and they will be included in his service. Reading all of your messages has been tremendously helpful, through all my grief, my families grief it makes me so happy to see how loved he was and how many peoples lives he touched. So share your love and your prayers and your pain, know that you’re not alone in all of it.
