Lance Mountain | Early life and Education

The skating star Lance Mountain was born on June 13, 1964, in the Californian town of Pasadena.

Ronald VJ and Patricia Mountain, both British nationals, gave birth to the artist. As the youngest siblings, he has an older brother named Bonnie and a sister named Ronnamay.

His older brother was also a skateboarder at one point, but he no longer skates.

First and foremost, Lance learned about skateboarding from a friend. In 1975, his buddy Enrique Esparza gave him his board, which was the start of everything.

The skating community was confined to only five tricks back then. All of this was taught to the young skater by his pals and newspapers.

Lance, unlike other skaters who could prevent injury, was prone to mishaps. During his childhood, he suffered three injuries.

His parents forbade him from skating as a result of this. He, on the other hand, did not come to a halt.

He was also raised in a devout Christian household. As a result, he avoided drugs and smoking, unlike other kids.

Because of this, he was frequently ignored by the older skaters. But that didn’t stop him from going to the parks to practice.

From 1976 to 1980, he spent a lot of time at the skate parks in Lakewood, Marina, and Montebello.

Lance Mountain: Career

There’s no doubt that Lance is a multi-talented individual. He is a skateboarder, an artist, and an innovator.

Lance decided to pursue his ambition of skateboarding when he was 11 years old. He began by practicing in skate parks.

The pro skateboarder then followed in the footsteps of his idol Tony Alva, practicing in empty swimming pools. He began working with the Whittier squad “Skate City” and later competed in A.S.P.O. contests.

Professional Start: Variflex

Lance began his professional skating career in 1981 when he joined the Variflex squad.

For starters, he got his start in Whittier Pool’s 1982 Rusty Harris Pro Contest and placed second.

Following that, he earned first place in the 1982 Summer V Open Ramp Contest. Then he took first place in the Add-On Competition, which was held at the same time.

Lance improved as a member of the Variflex squad. The firm also sponsored his first skateboard deck.

Power Peralta

Mountain was finally accepted into Powell Peralta in 1983 after a three-year wait for sponsorship.

As a result, he swept the Summer World Series at Del Mar Doubles in 1983. He also took first place in the 1983 Turkey Shoot Contest.

He not only won, but he also defeated legends like Tony Alva and Steve Caballero.

With Powell Peralta, he probably had his best years. As a result, he spent more than nine years with them.

The Firm

Lance left Powell Peralta and founded The Firm after the company’s success.

Despite working from home, he was able to keep up with the latest developments in skateboarding. He enlisted the help of well-known skaters such as Bob Burnquist and Rodrigo “Tx” Teixeira.

The Firm signed four videos with Blitz Distribution for the company’s development. The Firm lasted more than a decade. Lance, on the other hand, announced a halt in March of 2006.

His idea was published in the Transworld Skateboarding magazine. Powell Peralta, meantime, made a video called Primitive Future about it.

The fingerboard has evolved into an intelligent toy since then. It has sold over a million units under the Tech Deck brand so far. Mountain and Neil Blende were also the creators of the “Gay Twist” trick.
