Lanny McDonald wife, Ardell McDonald, has been married to the former hockey player for almost five decades. The Canadian hockey couple is parent to four kids, with all four choosing careers away from sports.
Recently, the Hockey Hall of Famer, Lanny McDonald, was hospitalized after suffering a cardiac event while returning from the NHL’s All-Star festivities in Toronto.
Lanny shared the incident on his Instagram handle and wrote the cardiac event took place at Calgary International Airport. McDonald thanked two nurses, who were heading to their own flights but helped him when he was in distress.
He also thanked the nurses and doctors and wrote he was looking forward to the Super Bowl and had his bets on Patrick Mahomes’ side winning the competition.
The 70-year-old played over 17 NHL seasons for Toronto, Colorado, and Calgary and was inducted into the Hall of Fame in 1992. A winger, Lanny, had 500 goals and 506 assists in 1,111 games.

Lanny McDonald wife, Ardell McDonald, married the former hockey player in 1975. The two when Lanny was playing junior hockey for the Medicine Hat Tigers.
Unlike today, the athletes’ wives during Lanny’s heyday didn’t make many public appearances. The two do not have joint interviews, but a few black-and-white images of the couple are available.
Last year, Lanny and Ardell were seen holding a framed photo of a gift that Lanny was going to be honored with in the spring. His hometown, Hanna, was replacing Hanna’s entrance sign and thought of gifting one of the welcoming signs to Lanny.
Previously, in an interview, Lanny had talked about when he and Ardell bought their first home. The couple was recently married and bought a house in Port Credit, Mineola Street, for $125,000.
Ardell is available on Instagram but has kept her handle private. She is seen occasionally on Lanny’s Instagram handle and was last seen on his Instagram in 2019 in a family picture, celebrating Christmas with her grandchildren.
In 2017, Lanny shared a sweet post for his wife, writing, “#teammates, the best one ever.”
Ardell was with Lanny when he went he went into cardiac arrest, and as mentioned by Lanny on his Instagram post, two nurses saved his life. He said Ardell couldn’t catch their names as she was taken aback by the situation. The hockey player thanked everyone involved in saving his life with his post.
Lanny And Ardell McDonald Share Four Kids
Lanny and Ardell McDonald share four kids, two boys and two girls. Their first child was their daughter, Andra McDonald, who is now married to Joshua Townsley, and the couple share two sons.
In 2018, one of Andra’s sons, Hayden Townsley, traveled with Lanny to Beijing, China, to attend the 2018 ORG China Games. Andra’s other son is named Calder Townsley.
Calder has followed in his grandfather’s footsteps and is currently a Phoenix Junior Coyotes U-18 side player. He previously played for Edge School as a forward.
Lanny’s second daughter, Leah McDonald, is an Arizona State University graduate and previously worked for WestJet for 18 years. She left the company last year and joined ATCO Gas as a Director of Customer Experience.
Lanny’s sons, Barrett and Graham, have chosen career paths away from the ice rink. Barrett McDonald is a real estate agent with Keller Williams Realty.
He has also worked for Sotheby’s International Realty and is married to Kaci McDonald, with whom he shares three kids. Alongside being a real estate agent, Barrett and his wife, Kaci, run Tamarack Brewing Company.
The hockey legend’s youngest son, Graham McDonald, is a producer at Wildlist and an independent business owner of the companies, Pixelated Gigs and Sidecar Audio. He is available on Instagram but hasn’t shared a post since 2019.
