Larry Bird’s Legendary Rise And The Quiet Life He Built With Wife Dinah Mattingly

This article was last updated by on

Despite his iconic status in basketball, Larry Bird and his wife, Dinah Mattingly, have chosen a private family life, quietly raising their two adopted children, Connor and Mariah, away from the public eye.

Larry Bird, born on December 7, 1956, started his basketball journey in West Baden Springs.

His childhood was difficult as he grew up in a challenging environment where he faced poverty and loss.

When Larry was just 18, his father, Claude Bird, struggled with alcoholism and died of suicide.

His mother, Georgia Kearns, worked tirelessly to support her six children

Despite her struggles and tragedy, his mother instilled a strong work ethic in Larry.

As a result, Larry is now re-called as a Basketball legend.

His basketball journey began when he attended Indiana State University.

He gained national attention for leading the Sycamores to the NCAA championship game in 1979.

Eventually, he was drafted by the Boston Celtics in 1978, and he quickly became a cornerstone of the franchise.

Over his career, he won three NBA championships (1981, 1984, 1986).

In addition, he earned numerous accolades, including three NBA MVP awards and twelve All-Star selections.

With his exceptional skills, Bird became an iconic figure both on and off the court, in no time.

Larry Bird’s Transition from Basketball Fame to a Quiet Family Life With His Wife

While Larry Bird achieved immense success in basketball, his personal life is one heck of a story.

At 19, Larry married his high school sweetheart, Janet Condra, in 1975.

However, their marriage faced difficulties, leading to a divorce in 1981.

They had one daughter together, Corrie Bird.

After the divorce, the relationship between Larry and Corrie became strained over the years.

In the early 1980s, Larry met Dinah Mattingly while they were both attending Indiana State University.

He tied the knot with Dinah on October 31, 1989.

Dinah Mattingly has been a significant presence in Larry’s life since their marriage.

Together, they adopted two children: Connor and Mariah Bird.

While Larry’s career demands often kept him busy, Dinah remained supportive throughout his journey.

Undoubtedly, Dinah and Larry have built a loving home for their children while maintaining privacy away from the public eye.

Unlike many public figures, Larry and his wife, Dinah Mattingly, have chosen to keep their family matters largely away from public scrutiny.
