As the Gaudreau family slowly navigates from the tragedy that struck their family on August 29, 2024, Katie Gaudreau and her partner, Devin Joyce, announced in January that they had bought their first house.
Katie and her fiance, Devin, were supposed to tie the knot on August 30, 2024, but one phone call turned their lives upside down.
A day before her wedding, Katie’s brother and NHL player, Johnny, and her other brother, Matthew Gaudreau, died in a bike accident.
The two brothers were biking in Oldmans Township, New Jersey, near their hometown of Salem County.
The New Jersey State Police reported that Sean M. Higgins struck them as he attempted to pass another vehicle.
Higgins was found guilty of driving while intoxicated when he struck Johnny Gaudreau, 31, and Matthew Gaudreau, 29.
Recently, Sean Higgins’ lawyers have made a stunning claim that the two Gaudreau brothers were more intoxicated than his client.
Defense lawyers said Johnny Gaudreau had a blood alcohol concentration (BAC) of 0.129, and Matthew had a BAC of 0.134 meanwhile, Higgins had a BAC of 0.087.
The defense also claimed in another filing that Salem County prosecutors were overcharging Higgins, which could lead to 35 years behind bars.

After her two brothers’ tragic death, Katie Gaudreau and her fiance, Devin Joyce, decided to postpone their wedding date.
Two months after the unfortunate incident, Devin and Katie announced they would exchange their vows on July 11, 2025, in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
Devin and Katie began dating in 2016 while they were in high school.

After their sixth anniversary, the couple decided to adopt a furry pet. Katie shared a few photos of their dog, Bella, on her Instagram handle.
Two months after celebrating their seventh anniversary, Devin popped the big question to Katie at the basketball court of their high school, Gloucester Catholic School.
On May 6, 2023, Katie shared a gallery of images from their engagement day.
The couple had hired a professional photographer for their pre-wedding photoshoots and Katie made sure to share several romantic pictures.
In July 2024, the Gaudreau family even organized a bridal shower for Katie.
The bride-to-be thanked her mom, maid of honors, bridesmaids, and mother-in-law for the bridal shower of her dreams.
A Rowan University graduate, Katie Gaudreau works as a dance teacher at All-Star Dance.
Katie’s fiance, Devin Joyce, graduated from Neumann University with a business administration degree in 2023.
He previously worked as a Sales Associate at Lululemon, and since 2023, he has been working with Agilent Technologies.
On January 20, 2025, Katie shared a picture of her and Devin standing on the porch of their new home. She wrote, “We’re home.”
Katie And Devin Are Doting Aunt And Uncle To Johnny And Matthew’s Kids
In September 2022, as Johnny and his wife, Meredith Gaudreau, welcomed their first child, Noa Harper, Katie was ecstatic to show the world that she had become an aunt for the first time.
On October 4, 2022, she shared a carousel of images of her holding Noa in her arms.
She wrote, “Aunt Katie and Uncle Devin love you with all our hearts. I can’t wait for you to see how much we have in the besties club! Just ask your big cousins Kam and Logan. Another best friend for Aunt Katie!“
A few months after Noa’s birth, Katie shared a sweet picture of Bella and Noa lying on the floor.
She also shared a photo of Devin holding Noa in his arms as the toddler flashed a smile to the camera.
On Noa’s first birthday, Katie shared a sweet video to mark the occasion, which included pictures of Noa attending her dad’s games.
Despite Johnny’s passing, Katie hasn’t stopped sharing Noa on her social media page.
On November 6, 2024, Katie shared a video of Noa showing her dance moves.
In the video, Katie is also seen asking Noa if she wants to go to dance class. Katie captioned the post, “My heart & soul. Aunt Katie’s girls take on ASD.”
On February 1, 2025, Katie shared a sweet photo on Instagram of Tripp Gaudreau, the late Matthew Gaudrau’s son.
Matthew’s wife, Madeline Gaudreau, welcomed their son, Tripp Gaudreau, in late December.
Katie wrote, “Tripp Matthew. I love you forever and ever. We are so lucky to have our little piece of heaven on earth.
You look more and more like your dad every day. Words can’t begin to express how much I love you.”
