Swimmer Libby Trickett’s Husband, Luke Trickett, has been the biggest support system who helped her maintain good mental health.

Despite her extraordinary achievements in her swimming career, Libby was struggling with post-natal depression after the birth of her first child in 2015.

She says that consistent care, love, and support from her husband is the key that brought her back to herself.

Even though her marriage suffered during her post-natal depression, Luke has always been there for her.

When the couple gave birth to Alfried, Trickett shared the exciting news via Instagram. She wrote, ”The Final little piece to our family puzzle”.

Libby’s Post-Natal Depression

Following the birth of her first child in 2015, Libby found herself struggling with post-natal depression.

“It just goes to show that mental illness looks different on different, and we put on a pretty good facade,” Libby explains. “It can be difficult to share those deep, dark emotions even with those closest to us.”

Having suffered from a miscarriage in August 2014, the arrival of their first child was an auspicious event for the couple until post-natal depression struck Libby.

One of the major triggers was lack of sleep, said Libby in her book.

In these darkest times, Libby’s husband was always there to comfort her in every way possible. With time, he became more sensitive and was able to communicate more clearly in her times of need.

“I think if we have that in our partners and in our friendships and in our families as well, that’s a really effective way of helping each other,” says the Olympian.
