The Cardinals guard Jayda Curry grew up with supportive parents who have helped their children realize their sporting dreams. Gary and Robin Curry are parents to four daughters, and three of their kids are college-level athletes.

Curry, 21, was a star basketball player since her high school days at Centennial.

During her time at Centennial, Jayda was named Ms. Basketball State Player of the Year and MaxPreps California Player of the Year.

She ended her career at Centennial with 2190 points, 399 assists, and 567 rebounds.

The young talent of the 2021 Class committed to the University of California-Berkeley in August 2020.

She signed with the Cal Bears with much fanfare, with many comparing her playstyle with the man with whom she shares the last name.

In her freshman year, Curry played 23 games, averaged 18.6 points, and was named the Pac-12 Freshman of the Year.

Curry led her side with 15.5 points in her second season, but unfortunately, the team didn’t perform well, leading Jayda to transfer to Louisville.

In her first year at Louisville, Jayda played all 34 games and made five starts with the Cardinals.

Jayda’s current season with Louisville is likely her final collegiate season. There are predictions that Jayda will be a first-round draft pick for the 2025 WNBA Draft.

The youngster remains cool-headed with her success and previously said she does this for her family.

Jayda Curry’s Parents Always Knew She Would Succeed!

Speaking to the Cal Bears website, Jayda said her dad, Gary, was always a big influence on her early start in basketball.

Jayda said she remembers the earliest memory of him placing a ball in her hands when she was only four. Curry said:

My dad would tell that he knew when I was 4 years old that I was going to play D-I basketball.

Gary graduated from North Carolina Agricultural and Technical State University with a Speech Communication and Rhetoric degree in 1989.

The father-of-four works as a District Manager at APCO Holdings, which isn’t his only job. Gary is the Chief Executive Officer at Coaches 4 Equality and also of The Curry Experience.

The entrepreneur is available on Instagram and has shared several motivational videos and religious talks.

Jayda has talked several times about her faith and religious values and how much the Curry family upholds them.

Her parents, Robin and Gary, first met at the Friendship Baptist Church in Yorba Linda, California.

The couple chose to put Jayda in vacation bible school at the same age as she began playing basketball, and since then, she has continued to attend churches regularly.

Jayda’s mom, Robin Curry, graduated from California State University-Long Beach in 1990 with a public relations degree.

She is available on Facebook and has shared several family photos, including pictures of the family attending most of Jayda’s games.

Jayda Curry Has Three Sisters, Two of Whom Are Also Athletes Like Her!

The Louisville Cardinals guard Jayda has three sisters: Kayla, Layla, and Ayva.

Layla is only a year younger than Jayda and has followed in her footsteps. She plays basketball at Loyola Marymount University and previously played high school basketball at Centennial High School.

At Centennial, Layla was in the first Team All-League in 2019 and 2020 and played AAU Basketball for West Coast Premier for four years. She also played for West Coast Elite but that was only for a year.

In her freshman year at LMU, Layla played 18 games, averaging 10.1 minutes, and recorded 13 rebounds.

After suffering an injury, Layla couldn’t participate in her sophomore year and has since remained out of the basketball court.

On her Instagram in September 2023, Layla shared a post about her injury.

She wrote, “Re-learn how to walk.” The youngster thanked her supporters and shared a gallery of images of her from her hospital bed, including pictures with her parents.

The last picture she shared on her Instagram was of her on a cycle in August 2024, when she showed she was slowly recovering from the injury that had put a question mark on her basketball career.

Only time will tell whether we will see Layla back on the basketball court again.

Jayda and Layla’s younger sister, Ayva Curry, play volleyball at Centennial High School as an outside hitter.

The Class of 2027 volleyball player Ayva and her team won the League Championship in October 2024, becoming the first team in Cen10’s history to win the accolade.

One of their other sisters, Kayla, remains out of the limelight and doesn’t seem interested in sports.
