Lucas was named the All-FCIAC twice as a Junior and Senior. The Coaches Association and New Haven Register named him to an All-State First Team Selection.

College Career

After high school, Lucas had almost 40 scholarship offers from schools like TCU, Penn State, Auburn, Miami, and Georgia. But he enrolled at the Texas Christian University in 2016.

Lucas played 12 games for the Texas Christian Horned Frogs football team in. In his sophomore year, Niang became a starter in the midseason in 2017 and assisted his team in winning first place in the Big-12 Championship Game and a victory over Stanford in the 2017 Alamo Bowl.

In his junior year, Lucas started in all 13 games as a right tackle and did not allow a single sack which earned the 2nd Team All-Big 12 honors in 2018 before winning the 2018 Cheez-It-Bowl defeating California.

Lucas was also named first Team Preseason All-Big 12 as a junior and was ranked as one of the best offensive linemen in college football by a sports website ‘The Athletic.’

Moreover, Gil Brandit, the executive of the Hall of Fame NFL, gave him the title of ‘the top offensive line prospect in the 2020 NFL Draft. What more could a collegiate athlete ask for?

Professional Career

The news popped out on the television network regarding the Kansas City Chiefs’ addition that they drafted TCU offensive tackle Lucas Niang in the third round of the 2020 NFL Draft as the 96th pick overall.

In the 2021 season, Niang was named the Chiefs starting right tackle and started 7 of the first 9 games. He was introduced as the left tackle in Week 17 but suffered a torn patellar tendon in the game and was placed on injured reserve.

Lucas was placed on the reserve/PUP list on August 23, 2022. However, he made his return to the active rosters list on November 23, 2022.

In 2019, the former TCU star offensive tackle had to go through surgery for a torn hip labrum, which would require three to four months to recover the injury.
