Marcus McClung’s parents met at Virginia Tech, where his father played football, and his mother was a cheerleader.
Mac got his athletic ability from his parents, and as he grew up, he followed his father’s footsteps and played football initially.
However, when he was in seventh grade, his mother signed him up for the local youth league and basketball.
Over time, Mac became interested in basketball and began training for the sport regularly, with hopes of making the National Basketball Association (NBA).
He later played college basketball for both the Georgetown Hoyas and the Texas Tech Red Raiders.
McClung was considered a three-star recruit and one of Virginia’s top high school players.
Following the 2021 NBA draft, McClung went undrafted but later joined the Chicago Bulls and Los Angeles Lakers.
He then played for the South Bay Lakers in the G League, where he was named the Rookie of the Year for the 2021–22 season.
Last year, McClung made history last year after he became the first G-League player to win the Slam Dunk Contest.

Mac McClung, born on January 6, 1999, in Gate City, Virginia, USA, was raised by his parents, Marcus and Lenoir McClung.
Both Marcus and Lenoir were athletes during their time at Virginia Tech.
Marcus, Mac’s father, excelled in football, playing as a tight end and linebacker in the early 1990s. Similarly, Lenoir was a cheerleader at the same college.
The couple met during their college years, eventually got married. Following his college days, Marcus pursued a career in law, serving as Commonwealth Attorney for Scott County, Virginia, while Lenoir taught driver’s education at Gate City High.
Their athletic background greatly influenced Mac’s upbringing. According to Marcus, Mac displayed a competitive spirit from a young age, always eager to turn even the simplest tasks into a challenge.
Initially drawn to football, Mac received training from his father. However, his interests shifted towards basketball as he grew older.
Marcus was relieved when Mac decided to focus on basketball, especially after he gave up football following his freshman year of high school.
Mac McClung Sister Anna Is A Former Soccer Player
Anna McClung, born on November 9, 1994, is the elder sister of Mac McClung, being five years his senior.
Anna, much like her father, pursued soccer from a young age and emerged as one of the nation’s top recruits.
She was ranked as the No. 3 overall recruit and the No. 1 forward in 2013 by Top Drawer Soccer.
Anna attended the University of Tennessee, Knoxville, where she obtained a Bachelor of Applied Science (B.A.Sc.) degree in Public Relations.
During her college years, she actively participated in the Women’s Soccer Team and earned recognition on the SEC Honor Roll for her achievements.
Prior to her time at the Tennessee, Anna was a member of the Women’s Soccer Team at Florida State University.
Presently, Anna works as an Account Executive at Assured Partners and enjoys a happy married life with her husband.
