A 21-year-old baseball player, Davis Collin Gray, took his last breath untimely on the afternoon of August 26, 2025.

Tragically, his death came just weeks after another devastating tragedy struck his family.

On August 4, 2025, Davis’s sister, Emily Wallace Gray, and her husband, Hunter Warren McLendon, lost their stillborn identical twin sons, Wells Warren McLendon and Shepard Thomas McLendon.

Born into the arms of their loving family, the twins passed away on the same day.

Born on December 17, 2003, Davis Collin Gray is survived by his parents, Thomas Louis Gray and Donna Wallace Gray; his sister, Emily Wallace Gray and her husband, Hunter Warren McLendon; his brother, Dylan Thomas Gray; and his grandfather, Jewell Ladon Wallace.

He also leaves behind his niece, Vivienne Kate McLendon, and several family members.

In addition to his nephews, Wells Warren McLendon and Shepard Thomas McLendon, Davis was preceded in death by his grandparents, John Basil Gray, Mattie Lee Gray, and Dutha Rayborn Wallace.

Davis’s sister, Emily, shared a heartfelt message about her younger brother, which reads:

Davis loved baseball, his faithful dog Blue, and the simple joys of life shared with those he loved.
For some, this world can feel too heavy to carry, and for Davis it was so. We find comfort in knowing he is now at peace in heaven, reunited with his infant nephews Wells and Shepard, watching over them until we can all be together again.

Marie Holliman, a friend of Emily Gray, shared her heartbreak over the back-to-back tragedies the family is facing. She prayed for Emily as she processes two losses consecutively, writing:

This is so sad! Emily Gray and Hunter McLendon buried their twins last Saturday! Now there burying Emily’s brother this weekend! Please pray for Emily Gray, The Gray Family and the McLendons! Prayers, thoughts and hugs to you all! I can’t begin to imagine the pain! 🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏❤️🙏

Davis’s brother, Dylan, wrote:

Forever carried in my heart little brother. No matter where I go, you will always be with me. Until we meet again.

A visitation and funeral service to honor Davis will be held on Saturday, August 30, 2025, at the Chapel of the Resurrection at the Chapel of the Cross Episcopal Church, located at 674 Mannsdale Road, Madison, MS 39110.

The visitation is scheduled from 1:00 PM to 2:00 PM, followed by the funeral service at 2:00 PM.
