Early Life
Toshio and Delma Lee welcomed Lee into the world in Riverside, California. He went to Riverside’s John W. North High School.
The NBA prodigy, during his early career in 2008, was rated as No. 5 shooting guard and the No. 47 player in the country by Rivals.com, which gave him a four-star rating as a recruit.
By 2011, Lee was a junior at UCLA and was selected to the Pac-10 first team and Pac-10 all-defensive teams.
Against the recommendation of UCLA coach Ben Howland, he entered the NBA draft after the season. Lee’s choice was contested by ESPN, Fox Sports, and Yahoo as well.
Professional Career
The Chicago Bulls selected Lee with the 43rd overall pick in the second round of the 2011 NBA Draft. On draft night, he was exchanged for Nikola Miroti’s draft rights, the 23rd pick, and the draft rights to Norris, the 28th pick, by the Minnesota Timberwolves.
The NBA star was traded to the Golden State Warriors on June 27, 2013, the day of the 2013 NBA Draft, and they then dealt him to the Phoenix Suns.
He spent the summer in Phoenix getting better, but his right quadriceps wasn’t strong enough to be cleared for full-time work.
Lee joined the Philadelphia 76ers on October 7, 2014. On October 25, 2014, the 76ers later released him. He was acquired by the Delaware 87ers on November 3, 2014, as an affiliate player.
For the remainder of the 2017–18 campaign, Lee signed with Igokea on November 1, 2017. He parted ways with Igokea on January 16, 2018, and for the balance of the 2017–18 BBL season, he signed with the German team Tigers Tübingen.
He renewed his contract with the 76ers on December 5. When the 76ers traded for Andrei Kirilenko and Jorge Gutiérrez six days later, he was released by the team.
Lee arrived back in Delaware on December 13 and onto the field that evening against the Canton Charge. Lee was moved to Grand Rapids Drive on January 30, 2015.
Malcolm Lee: Injury
Lee, after having surgery to repair a torn meniscus in his left knee, Lee missed the start of the 2011–12 season after his knee started to hurt during training camp.
He was sent to the Sioux Falls Skyforce in the NBA Development League on February 6, 2012, to rehab his knee, and he was brought back after three games.
On February 29, he was transferred to Sioux Falls. On March 10, 2012, he entered the NBA’s regular season.
Again, due to a groin injury, Lee missed the rest of training camp and the exhibition season in 2012–13. He made 12 starts during the regular season, scoring a career-high 10 points in a victory over Philadelphia on December 4, 2012.
After two surgeries in January to repair damaged cartilage in his right knee and to replace a hip, he was delayed by injuries and missed the rest of the season.
