Marcelo Arevalo’s wife, Lucia Kovarcikova, played tennis until 2013 and once achieved a ranking of 599. Lucia shares a baby boy with Marcelo, and the tennis couple lives in Florida.
The Salvadoran player Marcelo Arevalo met his partner, Lucia, in 2017 and tied the knot two years later. Kovarcikova has stuck by her man through all the ups and downs and saw him create history in 2022.
After winning the French Open Doubles tournament last year with Jean-Julien Roger, Marcelo became the first player from Central America to win the men’s double major championship.
Alvaro will be hoping he can repeat the feat at the Wimbledon 2023. They will take on Brandon Nakashima and Marc-Andrea Huesler in the first round.
Though bookies have their rivals Ivan Dodig and Austin Krajicek as the favorites to win the tournament, Marcelo and Jean are certainly looking to hand them another loss in a Grand Slam finals.
Marcelo Arevalo Wife, Lucia Kovarcikova
Marcelo Arevalo’s wife, Lucia Kovarcikova, is a former tennis player, having played for the University of Utah.
Lucia comes from a Slovakian background but seems to have shifted to Switzerland at a young age. She completed high school at AKAD Zurich and had already achieved the rank of 152 in ITF Junior in 2007.
Born on January 22, 1991, the Slovakian tennis player began playing in various competitions in 2006 and won the Curacao Juniors Open the same year. She played 24 games in 2007 and reached the South / Central Africa Juniors Circuit semifinals.
In 2008, Lucia started playing in the doubles tournament and won the U-18 doubles at the 2009 Swiss Championship. That same year, Lucia also reached the career-high ranking of 599 in the WTA Doubles and 1103 in WTA Singles.
Kovarcikova enrolled at Utah in January 2011 and was eligible for the 2010 season. She continued playing until the 2013 season before her graduation. But Lucia is now far from the tennis player life and owns a beauty salon.
Lucia has established a beauty salon in Davie, Florida, and has shared the info on her Instagram bio. The Florida-based beauty salon provides hair, nails, facials, waxing, lashes, and make-up services.
On Instagram, Lucia can be seen sharing pictures of her whirlwind trips that come from being a spouse of a tennis player.
Marcelo Arevalo And Lucia Kovarcikova Relationship Timeline
Marcelo Arevola and Lucia Kovarcikova went public with their romance in August 2017. At least on Instagram, it was 2017.
On her Facebook handle, Lucia stated it was in October 2018. On August 25, 2017, she shared a photo of her and Marcelo in the streets of Times Square, with the tennis player trying his best Salvadoran “Hulk” impression.
And if Lucia became Instagram official with Marcelo in 2017, then the Salvadoran tennis player waited five more months to confirm their romance.
After confirming that they were dating, the tennis couple didn’t shy away from sharing romantic pictures with their followers.
Lucia started sharing snaps of her attending various tennis tournaments to cheer on her partner, including trips to London and Paris for Wimbledon and the French Open.
The Couple Tied The Knot In 2019
After announcing, they were expecting a baby boy in September 2019, the couple arranged a courthouse wedding in July 2019.
Lucia and Marcelo shared a couple of photos from their low-key courthouse wedding, receiving tons of congratulatory messages from fans and friends. But a year later, they had a more formal wedding ceremony.
The couple had their wedding ceremony at Thalatta Estate, Florida, in December 2020. The ceremony was attended by close family and friends due to the COVID protocols.
In June 2021, Lucia shared a short wedding ceremony video, which showed both bride and groom walking down the aisle with their parents.
What made the ceremony more special for the couple was the presence of their son, who seemed to enjoy walking with his parents after they exchanged their vows.
Marcelo And Lucia Share A Son
The couple experienced parenthood for the first time in September 2019, after the birth of their son Marcelito Arévalo.
Little Marecelito has a separate Instagram handle with the username @marcelito_ak. It is run by his parents, who have shared various pictures of Marcelito with his cousins and Roger Federer.
With his dad competing in the Wimbledon doubles tournament, Marcelito met the Princess of Wales, Kate Middleton. Kate stopped by Marcelito after he waved at her saying, “Hi, Princess.”
One of the proudest moments for Marcelo came last year when he won the French Open doubles tournament. After lifting the trophy with his partner Jean-Julien Rojer, Marcelo gave a speech while carrying his mini-me.
Though Marcelito might not have understood the importance at the given time, the little guy will probably look back at the moment with pride as he matures.
And who knows, maybe we will see another Arevalo on the tennis court in the coming years.
