WR Marquez Stevenson signed with Carolina Panthers on 16th May 2023, securing his position on the team’s roster.
Marquez Stevenson, born on March 26, 1998, in Shreveport, Louisiana, is an American football wide receiver.
He signed the contract as an undrafted free agent, along with several other players, as Panthers made several roster changes.
The NFL team has made several additions to their wide receiver during the offseason, making it challenging for Marquez to secure a spot on the team.
Therefore, Stevenson’s most viable path to earning a roster spot would likely be as a returner.
He was drafted by the Buffalo Bills in the sixth round of the 2021 NFL Draft. During his time with the Bills, he had limited involvement on offense, appearing in only six snaps across five games.
Moreover, he only had a chance to contribute on special teams, where he returned 14 punts for a total of 132 yards and seven kicks for 165 yards.
Despite his potential, Buffalo decided to part ways with Stevenson after just one year, leading to his subsequent signing with the Cleveland Browns.
Marquez joined the Cleveland Browns practice squad on December 14, 2022. Later, on January 9, 2023, he signed a reserve/future contract with the team.
On May 9, 2023, the Browns made the decision to waive Stevenson, releasing him from the roster.
Alongside Marquez Stevenson, the Carolina Panthers also added safety Vernon Scott and offensive tackle BJ Wilson to their roster.
Scott, who was selected by the Packers in the seventh round of the 2020 draft, recorded 14 tackles, two tackles for loss, one sack, and one quarterback hit in 18 games during his time with Green Bay.
