Kory Marcel Anding, a Maryland native and former multi-sports athlete, passed away on October 25, 2025, at an untimely age of 29, leaving his family and loved ones devastated.
Kory Marcel Anding, 29, was involved in a violent incident on Berkeley Street. The tragedy unfolded on October inside his home, where a domestic dispute escalated into a fatal confrontation.
According to the Alexandria Police Department, officers responded to reports of gunshots at 3450 Berkeley Street around 10:56 p.m.
When they arrived, they found Kory deceased in the bathroom of the apartment.
The suspect, 26-year-old Damontie James of Alexandria, remained at the scene and was immediately detained. He now faces charges of Second Degree Murder and Use of a Firearm in the Commission of a Felony.
For Kory’s loved ones, the shock and pain run far deeper than what any official report can capture.
According to his sister, Kory Anding was murdered in the bathroom by his kids’ uncle while his daughter was in the house.
She further stated that Kory had dialed 911 at 10:54 p.m., only two minutes before he lost his life.
Hearing the recording in court was described as “hard as hell,” a heartbreaking reminder of the fear and chaos he faced in his final moments.
His family firmly rejects claims suggesting the killing was an act of “protection,” calling that narrative false and deeply hurtful.
“My brother was murdered, in the bathroom, by his kids’ uncle while his daughters were in the house 💔The picture being painted as if Kory was some abuser and this was done “protecting” his sister is absolute bullshit & I hate it so bad.”

Family members describe Kory as smart, loving, and devoted, especially toward his two daughters, Kori and Blythe.
The love he had for them defined him—and tragically, it was that love, and his presence in the home for his children, that placed him in harm’s way. His family believes that his dedication to being a father cost him his life that night.
Police confirm the case remains an active and ongoing investigation, and the Office of the Chief Medical Examiner will determine the final cause and manner of death.
Authorities continue to encourage anyone with information to reach out to Detective Escobar at 703-746-6819 as the legal process moves forward.
For now, Kory’s family and friends are left to honor his memory, fight against misinformation, and seek justice for the loss of a man they say never deserved the violence he endured.
