Derik Queen is an American college basketball player currently playing for the Maryland Terrapins of the Big Ten Conference.

After just one year of showcasing his exceptional basketball talent at the University of Maryland, Derik Queen has declared for the 2025 NBA Draft.

He announced his decision in early April 2025 during an appearance on The Scott Van Pelt Show.

Furthermore, the NCAA star began his announcement by praising God. Derik Queen then thanked his parents, the rest of his family, teammates, and coaches—both past and present.

Derik Queen has been winning the hearts of millions with his impressive athleticism and positive attitude.

With his rising popularity, many are eager to learn more about his personal life, including details about his parents and family background.

Derik Queen was born on December 27, 2004, in Baltimore, Maryland, United States.

While very little information about his parents is available, according to some reports, he lost his father earlier in his life and was raised in Baltimore by a single mother, Lisa Lomax Anderson.

Derik Queen Inherited His Positive Attitude From His Single mother, Lisa Lomax Anderson

Despite struggles and hard times, Lisa Lomax Anderson raised her only son, Derik Queen, to become one of college basketball’s most popular rising stars.

Lisa always stood by Derik’s side through the highs and lows, supporting him throughout his basketball journey.

While little is known about her professional or personal life, since she prefers to maintain a low profile, Lisa instilled in Derik a deep sense of positivity and joy, qualities that helped shape his sports career.

In an interview, Lisa said her son has always been independent, determined, and eager to learn.

She worked early morning shifts when Derik was young, but was never concerned about him getting into trouble.

She said,

He always had a basketball—I was never worried about him,”

However, Lisa was initially hesitant about Derik’s move to Montverde Academy. As a mother, she wasn’t ready to send her only child so far away.

She shared,

It was just like, he’s so young. Going to Florida by himself? What if something happened? How would I get there? I just thought about all the what-ifs,”

Eventually, after seeing her son’s passion and receiving countless calls from Montverde, she allowed him to pursue his dream.

Although Derik struggled during his first year at Montverde, as he wasn’t used to sharing rooms and bathrooms and found being away from family difficult, his mother Lisa continued encouraging him.

Derik often expresses his gratitude to his mother, Lisa, for guiding him both on and off the court.

Likewise, Lisa frequently shares pictures of her son on social media, proudly expressing her love and support.
