Matt Barnes is a retired American professional basketball player who played for various teams in his around 15-year-long career. 

He played 14 seasons in the National Basketball Association (NBA). He won the NBA championship only once, with the Golden State Warriors in the 2016-2017 season.

Barnes played for various basketball teams throughout his career, including the Los Angeles Clippers, Sacramento Kings, Phoenix Suns, and Orlando Magic.

Jason Barnes is the younger brother of former NBA player Matt Barnes. Matt was born on March 9, 1980, while Jason was born on April 11, 1984.

Despite the four-year age gap, the brothers share a passion for sports. 

Jason played college soccer for the Sacramento State Hornets and later became a football wide receiver.  He played for the Edmonton Eskimos and the Toronto Argonauts for a total of six seasons.

Jason began his football career as a free agent with the Central Valley Coyotes in 2007. He is known for being a veteran receiver and has logged 53 receptions in his first three seasons.

Jason has two career touchdown catches, both coming at Ole Miss in 2008. He played in 43 games for the South Carolina Gamecocks and made 17 career starts.

The talented brother of Matt is a sports and entertainment management major at the University of South Carolina. Despite his accomplishments, Jason is currently a free agent, waiting for his next opportunity in professional football.

Matt Barnes was born on March 9, 1980, in Santa Clara, California, to Henry Barnes and Anne Barnes. Unfortunately, his mother, Anne, passed away in 2007 due to stage 4 lung cancer.

Matt’s father is an African American, and his mother was a mix of Filipino and Caucasian. Barnes siblings grew up in a family of athletes, with their father playing football and their mother playing basketball.

The former NBA star attended Del Campo High School and played college basketball at UCLA, where he was an All-Pacific-10 Honorable Mention selection in 2001.

He began his basketball career in the United States and went on to play for several NBA teams throughout his career.

Notably, his nationality played a pivotal role in his professional success, enabling him to showcase his skills and represent his country on a global platform.

Matt Barnes was married to Gloria Govan, who appeared in VH1’s Basketball Wives and Basketball Wives: LA. The couple has identical twin boys named Carter and Isaiah. The couple, however, divorced a few years after getting married.

Barnes gained infamy in 2015 when he punched his former teammate, Derek Fisher, after finding out that Fisher was dating his ex-wife, Gloria Govan.

Despite retiring from the NBA in 2017, Barnes has continued to stay active in sports by coaching his son’s basketball team. Additionally, as he has entered his 40s, Barnes has increasingly engaged in advocacy works and activism.

He has emerged as a prominent voice in support of social justice issues, especially in the aftermath of the Black Lives Matter movement, and has utilized his influential platform to raise awareness and advocate for meaningful change.
