Williams started his professional basket career by entering UCF. After graduating from UCF, Williams wanted to transfer to Wake Forest, but he returned to UCF for his final year. 

Williams played with the Knights in his fifth year and scored well in the matches. He had a fantastic career while playing for the Knights in UCF. 

Because of his contribution to the team matches, the Knights entered the 2017 National Invitation Tournament semifinals.

Williams was the leader in the three-pointers of the school. His records in the competitions were recorded in the American Athletic Conference records. 

NBA Career

After graduating from college, Williams joined the Miami Heat for the NBA Summer League in 2017.

Williams signed with the Miami Heat for the 2017-18 season after playing for the club in the Summer League. 

On October 15, 2017, the Heat converted Williams’s contract into a two-way contract. It meant that he could split his playing time between the Heat and the Sioux Falls Skyforce. The Skyforce is the NBA G League affiliate of the Miami Heat. 

Williams started the season by playing for the Heat for a week and then in the Sioux Falls Skyforce. On December 20, he was back with the Heat.

Williams played three matches for the Miami Heat in the whole season. On December 31, 2017, he was released from the contract.

The Sioux Falls Skyforce later acquired Williams. He played for the club for a year.

International Career

On September 12, 2018, Williams signed with the KTP Basket of the Finnish Korisliiga. He played for the club for four months.

In January 2019, Williams joined Kymi of the Greek Basket League. He played 12 games for the club in six months.

Because of the global pandemic, the officials canceled the 2019-2020 season, so he had to return to the US. 

On August 11, 2021, Williams joined GTK Gliwice of the Polish Basketball League. He played 13 games for the club. 

On December 11, 2021, Williams signed with Lavrio of the Greek Basket League. Currently, he is playing for the Greek league.

Since Matt joined UCF, Matt was set to play basketball there. However, the circumstances didn’t allow him. 

In his first year, Williams had a medical setback as he suffered from an acute appendix and had to undergo surgery.

The medical condition hampered his sports, and he had setbacks in some games. In his sophomore year, he suffered from a knee injury. He was out of the games for some weeks because of it.

The damage was severe as the knee pain was due to the inferior bipartite patella, a rare condition that had to be faced with surgery.

Because of the surgery, he had to miss the significant games of the season. Fortunately, that wasn’t the end of his basketball career and he got a second chance at UFC.
