Matthew William Dellavedova was born on 8 September 1990 in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, to his father, Mark Dellavedova, and mother, Leanne Dellavedova.
He grew up with his two sisters, Yana Dellavedova and Ingrid Dellavedova, in Maryborough.
His family is a sixth-generation Italian-Australian.
Matthew played four sports as a kid: tennis, soccer, Australian rules football, and basketball.
He was exceptional in football but gave it up to focus solely on basketball.

The Milwaukee Bucks acquired him in a sign-and-trade deal with the Cavs on July 2016.
