Early Life

Matthew William Dellavedova was born on 8 September 1990 in Maryborough, Victoria, Australia, to his father, Mark Dellavedova, and mother, Leanne Dellavedova.

He grew up with his two sisters, Yana Dellavedova and Ingrid Dellavedova, in Maryborough.

His family is a sixth-generation Italian-Australian.

Matthew played four sports as a kid: tennis, soccer, Australian rules football, and basketball.

He was exceptional in football but gave it up to focus solely on basketball.

As a junior, he played basketball for the Bendigo Braves and Maryborough Blazers.

Education

Matthew played State level basketball for Victoria Country and then attended the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra. After three years at AIS, he went to Maryborough Regional College.

During his time in Canberra, Matt attended Lake Ginninderra Secondary College.

After his college education, in 2009, he was recruited by Randy Bennett and the Saint Mary’s College of California.

Career

Despite being one of the best draft prospects, Matthew went undrafted in the 2013 NBA Draft. But he joined the Cavs for the 2013 NBA Summer League.

In September of the same year, he signed a two-year contract with the Cavs.

He rejoined the Cavs for the 2014 Summer League in July 2014.

The Milwaukee Bucks acquired him in a sign-and-trade deal with the Cavs on July 2016.

However, after two years with the Bucks, he was acquired by the Cavs in a three-team trade that involved the Bucks and the Wizards.

Dellavedova signed with the Melbourne United of the Australian NBL on July 2021.

He returned to the NBA in July 2022 and signed with the Sacramento Kings on 29 July 2022.
